1-1

This Irish team has a lot of convincing left to do before I can believe in them again.

i agree with this, but i think we'll take an unconvincing 1 goal win, 1-0 or 2-1.

I am hoping that Trappatoni is trying to build a team and this may explain why Andy Reid is not in his starting 11 away from home at least.
We only have to look at how england are always playing gerard and lampard in the same team with disastrous results to realise that sometimes your supposed best 11 players do not make the best team.
I think Trappatoni is also determined to stop us giving up late/soft goals which has been a problem for us in recent times(not surprising but most losing teams have this problem)
I hope Andy Reid is patient and waits for his chance which may come due to injury or he may be played in home games.Sometimes teams evolve or just by plain old fashioned luck a system that suits the players available falls into place(managers dont tell you that though)
We first and foremost have to make ourselves hard to beat against the Italy`s of this world.Actually its not a bad tactic against any team.
Anyway here`s hoping for the best and lets be patient and support the team whole heartedly.

2-1 Ireland. Doyle and Keane to score for Ireland.

There will be goals in this game for Ireland. The Georgian keeper is dodgy and with Hunt putting in the set-pieces, we could get some joy in that department (thinking of Doyle and Kilbane getting a few headers). Georgia have a young team, and if we get an early goal and pass the ball like we did in Norway, they could get frustrated. We could win with a few goals to spare.

However, if the players are still carrying any self-doubt over from the Staunton era (as we fans seem to be), it could be a long evening. I'll say 2-1 to us, a repeat of 2003.

Go for a 2-0 win for us.
Montenegro to win v Bulgaria
Italy to draw

Carlsberg dont do football results...but if they did......

2:1 and a nervous and frantic finish.

I agree. It will be close, but i think we will win.

As i said in another thread they will come at us like nothing we have ever seen before. Imagine it was the weekend after the British invaded and occupied the rest of Ulster. How would you feel pulling on the green shirt??? this will be about a lot more than a football match for them, but the boys in green will know that.

What i expect most is a classic game of football.

1-0 at best, with a couple of clearances off the line in the last 10 mins ;)

1-1 With a late, disastrous goal from some Georgian who's own family has never heard of him on a deflection. (And ten beers for me thereafter.)

Intersting article, thank you.
Honestly, havent been less sure of an outcome as I am of Saturdays. I would believe a 2-0 win or a 2-0 loss.

1-1.

Us to go ahead, then shut up shop, and then concede the customary late equaliser.

Knives out for Trap from the "Venners for us" gang after it.

2-1 to Georgia. Ireland will take lead in 11th minute and **** it away due to defensive lapses.

On a lighter note, im expecting Andy Reid to streak across the pitch at around the 71st minute, after Georgia's equaliser.

Anyone read Kerr in the times this morning? More pessimism. Baffled by Reid's exclusion. Kind of berates Glenn Whelan, saying he capped him at every underage level, but that he's not up to Int football.

Criticises Trap for announcing team so early as it allows the opposition time to form a gameplan etc. That it creates a bad atmosphere in the team (cites example of when he was manager he named team as late as possible which left 15/16 players possibly in with a shout.)

Not very analytical. Just ramblings from him. He needs to get back into football soon or he'll turn into Dunphy!

Surely Kelly or Foley would have been the better option here until Finnan gets back on track.

Finnan is by far our best full-back, one of our best and most consistent players and has played in two Champions League finals and a World Cup. He is also an exemplary professional and will be fit. Perhaps not 100% match sharp, but he's played at a level above and beyond most others in the team and his 90% match sharpness will still be far better than anything Kelly or Foley have ever produced.

We should be thanking our lucky stars he's on the pitch today.

The future is good if Kelly can adapt to International Football. He was very solid last season & I'm suprised he didn't get a move to a top 10 team in the English League.

I think he's right in saying Andy Reid is a good wide midfielder as well though.

I hope Whelan plays a blinder though and makes Kerr look like the crank he is these days. If Kerr was such a master tactician what the fcuk was that substitution against Israel all about & taking off our most potent goalscorer at 0-0 against Switzerland?

They have taken away Kerr's postage stamp size photo :)
I think he really tried hard this time to adopt the role of the rational critic, but failed.
He's incurable.
Where did he get the idea from that the face guard cráp was worth mentioning?

Kind of berates Glenn Whelan, saying he capped him at every underage level, but that he's not up to Int football.Did you hear his commentary for the Norway game? He was criticising Whelan for not getting a grip on the game. This was with less than 5 minutes played.

I can't remember where I watched that game but I didn't hear commentary anyway. We were slow out of the blocks (first 11/12 mins) but there was a significant and obvious switch in dominance thereafter and Whelan was at the centre of it. Those 32/33 mins were as good a performance from a central midfield pair as we've had in a long time.

I've a lot of time for Brian Kerr, but he thought that Kevin Kilbane was an international class central midfielder. So he's not one to talk...

Kerr is like a jilted lover. He had his chance and I wish he'd just shut the **** up.

Dying with man flu here so I need something to lift the spirits and I'm hoping it's a solid performance from the boys in green.

Sure the quality of players in England is much better. We should all support the English national team rather than our home team. It baffles me how some people on here don't realise the logic in this.

Not different at all. Sure a lot of the Irish team is English. Trust me, you'll get a lot more satisfaction out of supporting England.

Few people I know were in a bar in Mainz Friday night ahead of the Georgia game today.

It wasn't rocking as they thought it would be but in a few texts they said there was one "right fcuking tool, a thick bogger* who was acting the arse with everyone but in particular any female in the bar".

"He was ranting and raving with anti Dublin ****e while pervving every bit of skirt in the place"

One of them said he was close to decking the cnut but the others calmed him down and they moved to a non Irish bar.

Guess who it was?

Great goal, but the credit has to go to Stephen Reid for that beautiful first-time pass to set up the move. Class act that man, we missed him badly.
