He might score some goals like that but the proformance was not really good by him. He has not really proved himself yet for Ireland as he does be poor for us.

Debut against Croatia (played on the right of a 4-3-3). Our best player after Kavanagh against China. Really impressed coming on against Italy. Superb 2nd half in the Faroes. Best outfield player against Cyprus. Has he played any more?

You should not include Friendly games, in that case Kerr would be still manager.

eirebhoy he has a point though, whats the point for example in us playing friendlies or some crap cup in the summer when we should be playing in the world cup, and because certain said players didnt get us there????

I don't see where you're coming from at all mate. His point is that Elliott has been poor for Ireland. He certainly has not.

In my opinion, he has played well when few others have.
He should have started ahead of Robbie Keane in the last 3 qualifiers.

Thierry Henry didn't really impress against Ireland in Dublin, yet he struck a cracker which proved to be the difference between the sides. I'd have settled for a poor performance from Elliot if he had scored a goal like either of his last two for Sunderland.

Keep it up Stephen. You're one bright light in the gloom of Irish International football at the moment.

i was taking the side, or making the point that its no biggie someone performing in friendlies, i mean ireland are the world cup holders of friendlies. so indirectly when we are playing these friendlies in the summer or a cup thingie in the summer because our players, such as elliot only really performed in the friendlies and did nothing in the proper i.e. competitive matches where it mattered. having said that elliot was the only player that played at all in cyprus.

i think that clears it up a small bit!

Elliott played friendlies against Croatia, China & a bit of the game against Italy & impressed to a certain extent.

Elliott played competitive games against Faroes, Cyprus & Switzerland and impressed, first half vs Faroes excepted.

So his competitive performances have been at least as good if not better than his friendly performances.

And anyway, why shouldn't you judge a player's performance in a friendly if that's all you have? Performing well in friendlies earns you a shot at the real thing & as far as I'm concerned Elliott has done more than enough to be considered as a starter for Ireland.

I've said everything I have to say about Elliott on previous posts. Paul, I know you read many of them & you'll know I've been consistent in lauding his goalscoring instincts. In fact my first ever post on foot.ie was about Elliott.

He was almost bundled over, but unlike the superstars from the continent, he didn't crash to the ground, rolling around like he was on fire, he regained his composure and struck a cracker!

I'm delighted for him because of the honesty he showed in his performances for Ireland. That gets my respect everytime.
pretty much what I was thinkin at the time- class goal ,honest performance ,no drama

hope he doesn't let goals like these go to his head like some other high profile archers ....leave the white boots and podgy cartwheels to others , do what he does best ...keane has class about him when he try's ,good to know theres another striker who can score against the top teams too

Many of them!!! I have read them all stuts, its what passes the day at work for me

Point taken on proving yourself in friendlies to make it into the competitive games, but you have to see the side i am taking also.

Elliot didnt do much against switzerland in fairness, he held the ball up well in cyprus and took his goal brilliantly an example of a poacher in my opinion ( as you pointed out), but i dont beleive he played great against faroes bar winning the penalty. He did however play very well against italy when he came on and did well against china, but these are only friendlies.

anyhow time will tell, i hope it goes the way of your beliefs however
