Sussex v Ireland rained off, no result. Ireland's overseas player Jesse Ryder will not be returning to the squad after failing to show at the Surrey game, claiming he missed his plane. Slow left-armer Gary Kidd has been called up instead, but a new overseas player may be contracted before the next game.

Europe restricted MCC to 183 at Lord's this morning. Europe are currently 14/2, with Jeremy Bray suffering the unique experience of being dismissed by an Afghan.

Europe defeated MCC by 2 wickets in a close game at Lord's. The Scottish bowlers did the damage in restricting MCC to 183. Europe were in desperate trouble at 33-5 (Bray 10, O'Brien 3) but Trent Johnston (48) and the Dane Freddie Klokker (47) rescued the innings. McCallan with 28 and Scotland's Wright (23*) saw Europe home.

Ireland are going reasonably well against Middlesex at Castle Avenue, Clontarf today (get up there if you can an enjoy a day's cricket in the sun.) Having won the toss and elected to bat, Ireland are currently 76-2 after 23 overs. A good platform, but they need to step up the run rate dramatically in the last 20 overs or so.

Dom Joyce's return to the national team lasted only 9 runs, whereupon he was caught by his brother Ed off the bowling of the Indian spinner Murali Karthik, who's proving a tricky customer. Kenny Carroll was first man out for 22 after putting on 55 for the first wicket with Porterfield (still there on 42*.) Kevin O'Brien is the new man in, with Alex Cusack due to make his Ireland début on his home ground upon the fall of the next wicket.

I'm listening too (speakers dangling into the garden), you'd think they'd switch the mics off during the interval.

Another crap performance. Cusack did okay on début, making 29. Porterfield top-scored with 68. There's a growing lobby to recall former captain Jason Molins (probably the only member of the Jewish community to captain Ireland at any sport?) who's currently in good form, but it's questionable whether selecting a man playing club cricket in the UK would send the right signals.

Another miserable defeat at Clontarf today. Middlesex knocked off the 176 required inside 38 overs for the loss of just four wickets. Nantie "Wayward" Hayward went wicketless for 47 off his nine overs and Alex Cusack was clobbered for 29 off his two. Kyle McCallan kept a lid on things with a typically economical spell of 0-32 off 10. Thinus Fourie's figures of 3-41 off ten were respectable too.

Judas Joyce hit 45 for Middlesex and Turncoat Morgan 20*, including the winning runs.

Not so much this year, it was a bit of an inconvenience. No excuse for the results, though.

Have to say that myself and few others had a great day out yesterday. Sun beaming down, cool cider constantly flowing and some nice BBQ food there too.

Pity Ireland didn't play too well. Started well but then the run rate was nearly at a standstill for a few overs before coming back to life a little later.

Next one in Clontarf that would be worth going to is on the 14th of July, against the West Indies. Should be another good day.
