    Best player in the world?

Reading 442 there a while ago,
They have a top 100 players int he world list in this months issue.

    Their top 5 is :
    1 Kaka
    2 Ronaldo (Man Utd)
    3 Ronaldinho
    4 Henry
    5 Messi

    Mine personally is:
    1 Cannavaro
    2 Kaka
    3 Henry
    4 Riquelme
    5 Gattuso

    What's yours?

At the moment, I'd say Kaka.

Ronaldinho seems to be gone off the boil on the international and European stage lately. I don't watch La Liga so I don't know how he does for Barca there.

Other worthy mentions: John Terry, Cristiano Ronaldo Franck Ribery, Jefferson Farfan and Fabio Cannavaro.

I don't get this 'Ronaldinho is going through a tough patch' thing at all.
I think its to do with Brazil not winning the World Cup.

He scored about 21 league goals from midfield in last years La Liga, for the most part without the injured Etoó and Messi.
He's the best player in the world imo along with Kaka. Messis probably more exciting to watch and Essien, Terry and Cannavaro defensively.

Other players such as Inzaghi and Van Nistlerooij are extremely useful without being as impressive as the greats.

In the past few years, I've realised the difference between quality football and entertaining football and have changed my footie habits acordingly.

City definetly have the best bands playing at half-time.

    1. Ronaldinho
    2. Henry
    3. Kaka
    4. Messi
    5. Essien

Ronaldo didn't do it in the Champions League last year at all (bar one game against Roma), but he did win United the Premier League so I'll give him credit for that. Cannavaro is slowing down a bit, still quality, but so is Maldini. I've been impressed with Sergio Ramos, David Villa, John Terry (although I loathe the man), Gattuso, David Suazo, and am keeping an eye on Yoann Gourcuff of Milan too.

On a sidenote when is it time to start calling Rooney a bit of a flop? Don't get me wrong, he's a very good player, but when you get built up to be the new Pele and you actually end up as possibly the 67th best player of your generation then somethings obviously gone wrong

    .
Depends really on what you want your strikers to be , Van Nistelrooy isnt going to win many plaudits for his all round game , but when it comes to sheer goalscoring ability which is the main job of a striker there are very few better than him , himself Ronaldo Henry Shevchenko and Eto'o

Of course Maldini is probably the greatest footballer still playing.

Terry is not a proper footballer. He can not pass, he has no speed, he does not know what he is doing, all he does is go into a few tackles fiercely, hardly great at all.

Thats where I disagree. I realise he cannot pass, and has no speed but to say he doesn't know what he's doing is well off the mark. The guy can organise a defence as well as the best of them, he's always committed to winning the ball, he's great in the tackle, can defend corners well, and is a threat from Chelsea's own set pieces in the opposition box. That for me makes up a quality centre half

Last time I checked , being able to pass well and having great speed were not essential qualities in a top centre back

take a bow Dunne and McShane. Doesn't make them world class though.

Really? I wouldnt have him in a top 5 of midfielders let alone overall.
