    Wayne Henderson

Bad news for Hendo as he has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a back problem, heres hoping he can get back fully fit asap, as he looked in good form earlier in the season for Preston North End.

Bad news for him, and for us on some level (luckily no qualifiers for a while, otherwise we'd be in an interesting situation).

I'm sure in a situation like this Kiely would be willing to play on an interim basis if Given and Henderson were injured and Paddy Kenny was out of the picture for mystery reasons.

Hopefully Kenny gets in there as the #2 again though.

I think you will see a rash of reversals of early retirement decisions from anyone with real ambitions, also I'd love to be a fly on the wall at Traps introductory session

Lads put all your medals on the table together, se if the pile is even half as high as mine

Right Lads the only reason I took this job is unfinished business, the only trophys I have not won are the World Cup and The European Championship, and I intend to finish my collection

Sad news as before injuries took their toll, he was Preston's Number 1 and showed lots of promise. Hopefully, he can get a contract at a lower level club, but I fell pessimistic about his chances.

Sort of ironic I suppose that this thread should be bumped at the same time as Folan's. As was being discussed in his thread, whereas Folan's brief international career will be remembered fondly due to his part in Bari, Henderson's will be remembered not so fondly for his part in another Italian town (not that he was at fault).

Well, he wasn't exactly blameless either.

A shame though, but I think it's been on the cards for a while.

Also, I don't think San Marino is an Italian town!

    (And it's not ironic either...)

So he can't join another club before June, can he?

Sad to hear, but hopefully his body does recover in time and he gets back playing. Stranger things have happened.

I remember when Pat Fenlon was manager of Derry City, he raised an obscure goalkeeper who went by the name of Ben Roberts from the dead.* Ben Roberts had spent the most significant portion of his career as a back-up goalkeeper at Middlesbrough; his "fifteen minutes of fame" arriving when, in 1997, he stood in for the injured Mark Schwarzer during the 2-0 FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea at Wembley. Roberts career never really took off and he was eventually forced into early retirement from football in 2005 at the age of 29 due to a serious recurring back injury. However, this by no means put Fenlon off who, in employing what appeared to be a strict transfer policy of exclusively signing crippled also-rans, promptly snapped him up as a free agent in May of 2007 at the age of 31. As many feared, Roberts went on to make not a single appearance for Derry and, as far as I can remember, had his contract cancelled within a matter of months due to - believe it or not - a recurring back problem.

    *Well, nearly anyway.

Just thought I'd share that little anecdote, but hopefully Wayne Henderson has better luck. Although, unfortunately, my abiding memory of him playing for us will always be that shambolic episode in San Marino.

    Another masterstroke from Nutsy.

A more encouraging example would be England rugby player Steve Thompson, who retired a few years back because of a serious neck injury, cashed in his insurance policy and went off to coach in France. A few months later, he decided he was all better, gave back the insurance policy and returned to international rugby. And scored a try against Ireland on Saturday. And lost the game.

A lot more caps might have come his way except for one Shay Given. I wonder how often he sat on the bench for us.

I assume this was said tongue in cheek as obviously players don't select themselves.
