That piece reads like heavy sarcasm at times. Especially the defence of Delaney's utterly cringeworthy tie-throwing and the final couple of paragraphs.

That is some sycophantic rant. And that's not take anything away from Delaney's tie-throwing display - he throws a great tie.

I do actually agree Roy is suited to international management in the same way Slaven Bilic is. You wouldn't doubt his commitment (Saipan notwithstanding) and he would make midfield a priority. I would doubt his ability to handle it if the going got tough though, as it inevitably does with Ireland. He wouldn't have anybody as great as himself to work with.

I was shocked with the tie throwing, and moreso the fans standing up on the fences trying to catch it. It was a bit funny but with the atmosphere in the stadium I think everyone got carried away. It was great to hear the Irish fans chant non-stop and the only thing the locals tried to counter with was whistles, which lasted as long as they turned off what they claim are brains and went back to chanting - Advocaat must go.

As much as I think Roy is a bit of a gurrier, he'd never be as low class as Bilic. Roy would never openly profit (apart from wages and endorsements) for being Irish manager. He has a bit too much pride in the country. Besides, he's not quite ready for the job yet.

I'd say there would be interesting conversations with club managers trying to get players released for games. Any way this will never happen he just seems to rub a lot of people up the wrong way.

Some good points there alright but to say it will never happen is a fair stretch. Footballs a funny old game and nothing is as funny as football politics (excepting most Irish politicians of course)

Fanning said his appointment would fill the Aviva Stadium. Perhaps, but then again so might a circus and it would be hard to distinguish between the two.

In fairness he did the exact same in Macedonia so I don't think it was a case of getting carried away, he's just a tool. I'm sure he's not paying for those FAI ties either!

:-) If it's choreographed then it's good work, I don't doubt that he's tied up in the whole atmosphere, though it was a bit odd to see him do it in Moscow. The militia were a bit nervous, I thought he'd have gotten a hiding from them, the Irish seemed to lap it up.

Incidentally, the new series of 'An Idiot Abroad' looks quite interesting from the current previews..

sure trapp more or less filled a far bigger stadium when he was first appointed and look at the new stadium now. if people only want to attend our matches based on whos the manager then its all up. a managers ability to lead us to a finals is the only interest any true fan would have. who cares whether the showbiz footballing public in this country turn up or not any more?

so JD shows a bit of passion with our fans at the end of a creditable draw in Moscow. good on him as far as i am concerned

Against Serbia in that, er, 0-0? I rather think Croke was not even half-full.

Some dick of a steward wanted me lifted for trying to give tickets away outside 'The Ticket Office', FFS.

Let's watch how the Irish media hype up the chance of a return to Notts Forest for one Roy M. Keane. It began yesterday in the Indo, should be a fun week ahead!
