    RTE telly outside Ireland

The use of proxy servers to watch RTE outside Ireland has often been brought up, but never seems to work. Some time ago I used a proxy belonging to O2 to watch RTE and it worked. (I think it was the 5-2 Cyprus game ).

I know many people outside Ireland look for streams to watch the games; most are dodgy.

The reason proxies never work is that there are relatively few anonymous proxy servers in Ireland and they are usually down when found through a google search.

So basically what I am proposing here that if there were some magnanimous foot.ie users in Ireland with broadband, they could set up proxy servers (rather simple) for us users (un)fortunate enough to be in another part of the world. It would certainly be kept strictly for regular foot users, so nobodies internet would get completely ransacked.

That sounds good, but I think this weekend the game will be on stream as well

If you live in europe or North Africa or even some of the Middle East it is very easy to get RTE.

Get a big enough satellite dish. Get yourself a Sky sub from an Irish address.

    What does this mean?

From my experience all you need the proxy for is to connect to the stream? As soon as the stream is working you can then disable the proxy and continue watching? Does anyone know if that's right?

The match will be on TVAnts or Sopcast likely, I figure you're right about the RTE stream though

Yeah you'll need an account but that's no hassle and I'd highly recommend it. I've watched plenty of football on that site.

eirebhoy - do they require you to deposit money before you can watch the stream?

I am watching the German station the match is on now. Go to live-footy.org. Choose the Ireland v Germany game. The choose number 4. They are now reporting live from Landsdowne and the feed is perfect.

Gunter Netzer instead of of Eamo but not bad. They measured out the distance from the corner flag to the stand!

that was a great call onthe feed noely's guitar - thanks for that. Drove 45 minutes to the irish bar here where I live only to be told the ireland germany game was being shown tape delayed due to the brits in the rugby - sad when an irish bar gives precedence to the the british rugby team, but alas - we ive in he work where the botom line dollar rules supreme.
thanks to the dealy with the gasme starting - made it home, rused on to foot,ie and got your tip - watched the whole thing and did'nt have to give the setanta mercenary bas**rds a penny!! hopefully France stuffed the brits now.

Just a note that I finally managed to find a decent proxy server provider in Ireland, after all this time - i'm feeling quite proud of myself watching games from over here in Dubai! Reliable providers are still few and far between.

http://www.overplay.net - works really well, but its $9.95 per month so maybe a bit expensive - personally I think its worth it - for me at least having a provider to rely on for the games is great.

Other options with those with Irish relatives

Get a Slingbox and pull it into the back of UPC/Sky box. Work away!

A Sling Box is a device you hook up to your TV receiver and it lets you watch that TV anywhere in the world as long as you have internet.
