I heard he played very well at the weekend too.

The decision to roll his sleeves up and stay at a seemingly declining Palace rather than going to the upwardly mobile Brighton appears to be vindicated, though I was disappointed at the time.

just Garvan, Delaney and Paddy McCarthy. McCarthy hasn't played this season because of a persistent groin problem
All goals, yellow and red cards tweeted in real time on mastodon, BlueSky and facebook

I'm a Palace fan and I was at the game last night. Garvan played well last night and was responsible for winning our 2nd & 3rd penalties. He is a great passer of the ball and very good at set pieces. He seems to have won over the vast majority of our fans this season, and has benefitted from Palace playing more positive football, which is a big change from the negative dross that Freedman had us playing last season.

Damien Delaney has also been an excellent loan signing from Ipswich, and is yet to lose a game in a Palace shirt. He has looked very commanding as a centre half and weighed in with a few goals as well, and Palace fans want to get him signed on a permanent deal asap. He looks a far better option at centre back than O'Dea to me, and maybe as left back now that Wilson is out for a while.

As for other Irish players, Paddy McCarthy is currently out injured and will struggle to get back into the side now that we are playing so well. McCarthy is a decent wholehearted player but he does make the occasional error. I was gutted to see Sean Scannell leave us in the summer as I thought he had the ability to be a star, and I am sure he would look much better in our current team. Hopefully he goes on to prove himself at Huddersfield.

Palace have also got a right back called Joel Ward who we signed from Portsmouth in the summer. No idea if he has Irish roots, but Ward is an Irish name and he had a great game last night. We also have a midfielder called Stuart O'Keefe who is generally used as a sub. Again no idea if he can play for us. We also have Reise Allassani in our youth team who I believe played under age for Ireland and is supposed to be a great prospect, but unfortunately he is now playing for England.

Great info thanks fitzy. underage garvan always seemed to have a lack of pace and mobility similiar to glenn whelan though he looked technically super. Has that mobility/pace improved at all?He had glandular fever which seemed to set him back for a few seasons

Garvan has been performing consistently at the same level for the last 6-7 years.

Indeed, however I was more referring to the prospect that he may make the step up to play at the top level.

I wouldn't claim to know every twist and turn of Garvan's career, but there seemed to be a fairly steep dip in his development. In between being a really decent prospect and now, he lost his starting place at Ipswich, defintely, and possibly Palace as well?

He needs to be playing in a team that play decent football. Would love to see him make the step up but can't be too optimistic.

A player who might prosper in a continental setting more than in the industrial style football more commonly found at the level he is at, maybe?

A goal and an assist for Garvan today.

For me, Garvan is an enigma. When he plays well, he is top notch. When he's rubbish, he truly is one of the worst players on the pitch.

If Garvan can continue his form, then I will begin to pay closer attention to him.

I have no doubt that he will be delighted at this prospect.

I am sure in the Garvan household, they speak of little else.

I was behind the goal for that one mixed in with the Liverpool fans - immense - great to do them on their own patch after destroying Blackburn earlier in the competition at Ewood.

I quite fancied Berkovic as a clever little player but he just never delivered for Celtic really. Certainly wasnt a Martin O'Neill type player and when MON later brought in Big Hartson, shifted Berkovic on and to add insult to injury gave Hartson the Number 10 which Berkovic had previously warn..........
