Another nice sun holiday for kinger and his family i see.

Must we spend so much money on trips like this against opposition, who are far superior and will do nothing for us but cause our girls exhaustion??
We did it last year, move on. Plenty of teams in europe, who are more at our level, and would be up for a game.

and yes i know its ironic (and therefore slightly cost effective) that alot of the senior team are based in the states in college but maybe...shockin as it is...the boss could get off his laze-boy and pick up a few more home based players??

I think King said on RTE's coverage of the Olympics that the USA were paying to bring the Irish team over so there wouldn't be a cost if thats the case. I do agree with Nemi7 about homebased players. It was mentioned here recently about Ruth Fahy, she surely deserves a shot, and there are others too, both home and in the states

That thread title suggests that George Bush considers Bingo heads a clear and present danger to security the US of A.

    USA 1-0 Republic of Ireland

    USA 1-0 Republic of Ireland

Noel King’s Irish Women’s team came within 18 minutes of holding Olympic Champions United States to a draw at the Giants Stadium, New York in their friendly on Wednesday night. The only goal arrived on 72 minutes when Natasha Kai latched onto Carli Lloyd’s cross and beat goalkeeper Emma Byrne with a shot to the left-bottom corner. Michele O’Brien and Aine O’Gorman were denied with two late chances of an equaliser. A minute from the end, Ireland’s American-born striker O’Brien was close to levelling when her shot seemed destined for the net but US goalkeeper Briana Scurry got across to push the ball away.

Aine O’Gorman mustered another opportunity in stoppage time after she lifted the ball over the advancing Scurry only for Heather Mitts to scamper back and clear off the line. USA match-winner Natasha Kai admitted afterwards that Ireland gave the hosts a difficult game. “Getting the win was awesome, but it was just a hard fought game,” said Kai. “They had their chances, we had our chances, but our players wanted to win and that's what counts in games like this.”

not sure what you mean by foreign players. Any chance of an elaboration?

I think what 37Beour means by "foreign" players is players who are not Irish - ie. players who are eligible to play for Ireland only because a parent/grandparent was born in Ireland. AFAIK 6/7 of the current squad qualify for Ireland in this way -

thanks. that explains a few of the names I am not familiar with.

not a good sign for the womens game domestically speaking , but I guess you have to do what you have to do for the national squad.........right
