theres a lad from glasgow that moved to drogheda a couple of years ago. big rangers fan, wears the rangers jersey down the local for celtic/rangers matches and theres a great bit of banter.

A bit sad though that he doesnt feel safe wearing it anywhere else around the town!!

For the record i love seeing rangers do well - solely to wind up the celtic muppets in this country. We'd great craic drinking in a glasgow rangers supporters pub on the shankill road a couple of years ago before playing linfield, got our photos taken with plaques in their honour, etc

Well theres a difference between rangers/celtic supporters from glasgow and rangers/celtic supporters from Ireland/NI - the first set follow their local team which is great! Its the other set ive a problem with, when its mostly celtic supporters here in drogheda who support that british team over their local team and think theyre more irish than me cos they follow celtic but wouldnt set foot in united park

If i lives in town in NI where rangers were the main supported team, id refer to 'rangers' muppets. Is that clear for ye?

I think this sort of talk is barred from here isnt it, so im not going to go into it any further

No, I mean you were saying you enjoyed hanging out with a group of rangers fans from shankill - surely they are guilty of the same sin, supporting a foreign team, as the celtic fans?

Well they supported their local team linfield fans first, so thats ok for me!

I personally have no problem with anyone following teams from 100 countries (including rangers, celtic, man utd, a utd fan myself) once they put their local team first.

I guess thats alright, but I didnt get the impression that was the case, you didnt say they were LFC fans.

Personally I 'take an interest' in a few teams, and would want them to win their games. However, if it gets to the point where you're buying merchandise over here (as opposed to on a trip or something) and going to supporters club meetings, there surely arises the problem of split loyalties.

Each to his own I guess and football following involves a lot of irrational behaviour.

What about the thousands of Scottish Celtic and Rangers fans who shun their own country in favour of supporting Ireland/ England and turn up at their repsective home grounds every second week waving tricolours/ union jacks or sporting the latest Ireland / England jersey?

They're equally as deserving of the muppet title.

I don't know (m)any Scottish Celtic supporters that support the Irish football team in fairness.

I think there's an unbelievable amount of generalizing going on in this forum. My father moved to scotland at a young age and spent 30 odd years there making a living before moving back home. Following Celtic was one of the only ways of forgetting about the long hours of hard labour etc and now I share the same passion he had for Celtic along with my older brothers, yet I am categorised as a muppet because I am an Irish man supporting Celtic 1st and foremost. Get real! As far as I'm concerned its my heritage & its all I've known from a young age. How could my father take an interest in, say, Finn Harps when he was living across the water?!?
as for John83's comment about being fed up reading about Scottish football - no ones holding a gun to your head mate, there's plenty other 'irish' discussions going on. Us muppets will manage fine without your input!
Havin a weekend away is quite frankly, lettin ur team mates down!

The term muppet is definetly applied to you just cos people live in drogheda doesn't mean they are from drogheda so why would they bother their arse goin to watch them play over their own town, Celtic is an institution in ireland above most clubs, granted utd the come to the fore in this front over the last number of years due the increased commercial coverage of the prem league but the roots and history of Celtic are steeped in Irish heritage which makes them practically an irish club just because of their location doesnt make them any less Irish, look at our Bhoy McGeady!!!
