To put it in context you need to look at the Cork Hibs crest and the coat of arms of the city.
In the Hibs crest, the ship is coming in- the back of the boat is much higher than the front, like a galleon. In the coat of arms its looking straight at one of the sides. In the new crest, the ship is going out - thus the lower profile front of the ship is advancing and the raised back is hidden by sails.

The reference to Cork Harbour is surely redundant now that ye stopped playing Water Polo up in Bishopstown![]()
A reference to this me thinks
"Must you tell me all your secrets when it's hard enough to love you knowing nothing."

I don't like the crest mainly because no reference to football but I won't get too worked up about it either.
I like the Sligo livestock![]()
I don't think the new one is too bad. But i was happy enough with the original one. The 1980s design-style was kind of cool...and showed our heritage as a club founded in 1984 (in the same way that Liverpool's or Arsenal's or QPR's show their heritage as Victorian era clubs).
I'd be worried that changing the crest is an attempt to show change/progress, when it's just superficial and accomplishes nothing. Didn't the FAI change their crest recently as well? The last refuge of a scoundrel, perhaps...
Just revive this a little, how many crests have Cork City used since their introduction in 1984, and what years were they used between.
http://www.corkcityfc.ie/images/kits.gif the crests can be seen there.
Barring all the variations in colour and sizes, we've had 3 main crests - the original, a redesign, and a "re-imagining"
