Delighted for him. Whether he'll keep his place like half the Hull side when they play in the Premiership is another matter. That's one of the ironic things I always think when I see teams celebrating promotion. Half them will lose their place. It was interesting that when the Hull team was watching the Watford game on Sky, Robbie Brady plonked himself in front of the camera while McShane stood composed at the back. A limited but whole hearted player but I hate hearing him getting stick from fans.

Will be interesting to see how many of the 4 keep their place.
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Hear hear, re-McShane. There's a lot to admire in him. I also hate hearing him get stick and it wasn't his fault Trap seemed to think he was the next Cafu at one stage.

By the way, bar a silly lunge that might have earned a red card in an international (one of those where you let the ball run away from you and lunge in after it) Brady was a cut above everyone else on the pitch at times. There was some general good play but only Brady looked to have that bit extra. Bruce played him upfront in a 442.

I might be the only one but I don't have palpatations when I see McShane wear an Irish shirt. He's one of those odd players who can be calamitous but his class shows at key moments. I'm not in the least surprised to see his goal was key to Hull's promotion. Very excited to see Brady, Meyler and Quinn again playing at the top level of English football.

Yep his class shows at key moments, like the ones where you are looking dead cert for penalties in a world cup play-off, where he lets his man get in behind him and watches the ball glide past him!!! Those sorta key moments!

I hope one day you'll overcome your fear of the Irish defender giving away a penalty. I suspect that the fear shifts its focus, depending on who's in our back 4?

My own fear is that the ref allows himself to be fooled by the actions of a devious attacker, going out of his way to get contact with a defender and fall over theatrically. We are riding our luck with that one, we got away with the ref spotting Lewandowski's sham penalty claim but how much longer can we depend on having an eagle eyed official to save our skins? Surely one day, the ref will get fooled and award a penalty against us?
Only death will give us peace from all fears.

I have nothing but the utmost respect for Paul McShane as a man and as a professional. There are few players that I would love to see perform and thrive at the highest level than him. He seems to be a cult hero for the Hull fans and maybe that might bring greater confidence to his game. Certainly, when he was breaking into the Irish team, I had a fair bit of confidence, that he could achieve good things in the game.

However, while I'm delighted for him, I have to admit that my heart sinks anytime I see him wearing a green shirt. He always gives me the feeling of being a liability. He is slow and cumbersome and you feel that he is always liable to give away a penalty.

What are you on about? I was on about us getting to penalties against France. Not giving away a penalty.

Steve Bruce was interviewed on 5Live last night before the Sunderland vs Stoke game by Kevin Kilbane, who asked him about McShane - was full of praise for his character and ability, although he said McShane didn't really trust him. Has manager issues apparently, been let down too many times. Sounds like his faith has been restored though. Lovely stuff.

Hard to tell sometimes what you are on about, when you are being sarcastic about a player.

The only way a player behind McShane in that situation, could have controlled the ball, was to foul the ball. It's 3 1/2 years since, let's not get over it, that sounds a great idea

It's perhaps a bit unfair to judge a player on one incident, OK there maybe one or two more but that's the same with every player.
He has helped Hull win promotion though, question is will we see him in the Premiership next season?

Why wouldn't we? He was critical in Hull's promotion, the fans and the manager love him. Of course we will see him in the top flight next year. And he's a good player, in spite of what Eamon Dunphy has told most people here to say.

I have seen Eamon Dunphy maybe once in 5 years CD! I judge solely on what I see.

And if you think a good defence is built on foundations that include McShane and Ward then you might start on the right path by actually listening to Dunphy!

I wouldn't have either of them in my team but they're decent players.

Think back to the Foley/McShane selection for the Euros.
McShane went on to be key in Hull's successful promotion push while Foley couldn't get into a Wolves team that got relegated to League 1. Maybe just maybe Trap was right...

Selective memory? In a second consecutive injury-ravaged season Foley has still started more games than McShane.

According to ESPN, Foley's started 25 to McShane's 23, however both have been affected by injury this season. You could look at the trend though and say that McShane fought his way into a side challenging for the title while Foley was in and out of a team that was never far from the relegation zone.

So I was correct. How has he fought his way into the side though? He's a back up for them usually. He was playing left back in the last game! Fair play to McShane and to be honest if I was looking for a championship-level defender going forward I'd take McShane over Foley at the moment. But that statement from JGKyne was balls.

JKyne's statement was false but only just.

McShane isn't a back-up. He's started every game he's been fit for since he won his place in the starting line-up before Christmas.

Is fact-checking a dying art? We are on the internet, folks!

    http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/pa...24636.html#GB2

Started 1/12 then his next league start was 19/1 after being on the bench for 5 in a row. 9 league starts this year including most recently at left-back! Sounds like a squad player to me, his injuries being acknowledged in my judgement of his season from afar.
