Is that really necesarry? Are you trying to get me upset? There, are some, I have to admit, striking resemblances though. Both have scored hat tricks at international level agianst teams worse than Ireland. Both have prolific scoring records in the 2nd tier. Both played for Wolves, Sunderland, Leicester, and West Ham. I guess we should see by Christmas.

not trying to upset you Worm but Kelly was a superb striker, clever runner and a real goal poacher. Scored a hatrick v Israel (i think) on his debut but failed to live up to the expectations. But he was someone i loved watching play. Kelly = Connolly minus the ego.

You must think highly of Don Givens as well if you believe him
P.S. Now do you folks see? I innocently mention David Kelly and people start up on Connolly. So I hope you see, its not my fault many of these threads degenerate into Connolly arguements

That question was less stupid, though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.

Help me, Arthur Murphy, you're my only hope!

According to Joe O'Cearuill's wikipedia entry, he's a target for Hibs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_O'Cearuill
No source given on the link though
Wigan were linked with him a month ago (see here and here) but nothing came of it

I think I should the parachute, because I'm great.

In fact, I think I should get both parachutes, in case one doesn't work.

Wolves agree fee for Sunderland’s Elliott

    July 17, 2007

Stephen Elliott is poised to rejoin Mick McCarthy at Wolves after Sunderland manager Roy Keane accepted an offer for the Republic of Ireland striker this evening (Tuesday).

Elliott, who missed much of last season with a persistent ankle injury, has flown to his hometown of Dublin to link up with the rest of the Wolves squad, who meet Bray Wanderers in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday night.

He will undergo a medical and the finishing touches to the transfer are expected to be negotiated on Wednesday morning, with a three-year contract on the table.

McCarthy brought Elliott to Sunderland from Manchester City three years ago and will renew acquaintances with the 23-year-old forward at Molineux.

Elliott’s arrival at Wolves takes to three the number of Irish forwards in McCarthy’s squad: he will compete with fellow Dubliners Stephen Ward and Andy Keogh for a starting spot next season.

I find that a strange piece of business by Keane...I'd rate Elliott as a far better player than Chopra but seems maybe Keane has his doubts about him staying fit for more than 2 games. Hope he proves him wrong at Wolves...

I expect Wolves will have only a fraction of the interest shown in Sunderland last season, despite having at least as many Irish players worth keeping an eye on.

Good business by McCarthy. He has a young player proven at Championship level, but he also has enough forwards not to be dependent on Elliott.

I look forward to seeing him fit and playing upfront in the middle where he belongs.

He may only be 4th or 5th in the Irish pecking order, even lower maybe, but he's still a potentially good option for us.

    Whelan target for Canaries
NORWICH will step up their interest in Sheffield Wednesday's Irish midfielder Glenn Whelan after selling Dickson Etuhu to Roy Keane's Sunderland yesterday. Whelan has rejected two new contract offers from the Owls and, while a third offer is anticipated, his situation has alerted a host of Championship clubs.

If momentum is anything to go by SWFC are on the up. Their form over last 12 games was fantastic. I reckon he should stay.

Then again, I was in Sheffield last week and can see why he wants to leave!

It will be a sad day when SWFC have to sell to the likes of Norwich. Yes, not the most glamorous city in England but the wife loves Meadow Hall Shopping Centre when we go over for the odd game. One of the biggest in the UK.

As for Wolves, Irishmen, Elliott, Andy Keogh, Stephen Ward, Darren Potter, Gary Breen and Stephen Gleeson are among the 22-man squad travelling from Molineux to play in Ireland. More Irish than at Sunderland but it's the manager of Sunderland, not the Irishness of the squad or the owner, which has caught the attention of many Irish people.
