    Extra Time Query

This arose watching Liverpool and Chelsea last night!
When the game went into extra time, if Chelsea had scored would the away goals rule still count?
The argument that it did I thought was wrong as the away team were getting 30 min more to score a goal away from home.
The argument that it didn't was that bookings are carried forward to extra time and a second booking in extra time would mean a dismissal!
As you know no goal was scored so we never found out the answer.
Anyone know? If so is it a new rule or was it always in place?

Stupid rule, why should a team get a chance to score an away goal in ET when the other team did not get that chance.

Because the home team have the advantage of playing the extra-time at home!

The away goal rule was largely responsible for the cautious football played at Anfield. If Liverpool conceded, the tie was over & Chelsea's game plan is always built on keeping a clean sheet first, then nicking goals. Hardly a recipe for an open game. If the Carling Cup rules were applied I think Liverpool would have attacked more readily in the second half.

I agree with the boss. It' still in imbalance in risk.
