There's nothing stopping any channel showing LOI football. The contract for live football at the start of the season guarentees a minimum amount of live games. They can all show more and anybody can show highlights
They don't want to, bar TV3
Just wondering, does anyone know, are tv3 the only channel that have the rights to an eircom league magazine program? If not why do setanta or RTE not have their own one, seeing as they show live games, im sure they would do a better job.

even if they done a trial run for six months put it on between say 6 and 11 on a sunday or monday night and just see, id sya they would surprise themselfs
Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.
I was watching a docco on New York Cosmos last night (very interesting, well worth a watch, think its called 'once in a lifetime' anyway apparently it was ABC's mishandeling of the national tv coverage that caused the downfall of the NASL, Just live games with no propper highlites package.
Just before that i watched one of the numerous 'Soccer am' style shows dedicated to AFL here in australia, the live audience shows(no matter how big the live audience is) seem to be a hit. A general football show (not like the soccer show) with guests like Zaied, O'donoven or Ndo giving their views on the weeks footie action from the CL to sunderland to the progress of wexford youths, You could even throw Wallace on as a guest. Throw in a few gimics and a witty host and bingo...Just thinking out loud..
Always thought the format of the old Soccer Show on RTE was the best we've had, better than TV3's Monday night show, even allowing for the presence of The Master Pundit. More of a magazine type programme than just a highlights show, kinda like what Channel 4 used to do on Serie A way way back - highlights of matches, interspersed with feature pieces (I remember one particularly brilliant one about an LSL team made up of just Rumanians) and interviews with players, then a few journos previewing the weekend's games.
Only thing wrong with it was the scheduling - dunno what idiot decided that moving it to 7pm on a Friday was ideal.
Revenge for 2002
You must be joking. That was worse that what we have now. A few journos in a pub discussing the games? Oh dear.
Watch the Dutch or German football highlights on Setanta. They show ALL the games without the needless chat. Still a long way off considering some premier games are not even covered and others dont even have proper media facilities.

If they have to have a studio program then the guests should be a player or manager from each club. These could be put forward in rotating weeks by the clubs marketing officer. Then when your club rep is on they should do a feature on the team and club, maybe a few interviews in the training pitches recorded during the week. They could do it in a magazine style program presented from the training pitch, with intros for the games and voiceovers for the goals (like the Championship on ITV, which works well) All this would allow a bit of exposure for each team.
As Irishmen we dilute our sense of nation by depending on the English to bring us our balls
I'll have the games which were shown last night uploaded later this evening.
Who Cares?!
Good to see that Pat Scully understands the basic rules of the sport
Joe Gamble (judging by his Setanta interview)... not so much.Originally Posted by Scully
