If you thought Stan was getting a hard time...

    "Thank you, leave."

    - The message from the Czech paper Blesk to manager Karel Bruckner after a less-than-convincing 1-0 win over Cyprus.

"Bruckner, next time let the prostitutes play."

    - Another message to the Czech manager after the Cyprus game, in reference to suggestions that his players spent an evening in the company of ladies of the night.

Looks like Karel Bruckner is not the flavour of the month in the Czech Republic.

...and he's on half the money Stan get's, has actual managerial and coaching experience and on the face of it -can actually manage.

    Yep, right full.

Of course England didnt enter the thing because they wanted to hold on to their unofficial Best team in the World crown until at least the '50's.

Now, do the math, how many times has the Czech Republic been to the World Cup? And to go further, who was their manager during all of qualifying and during the entire first tournament?

The Czech Republic national team is considered to be the sucessor of the Czechoslovakia national team - any achievements by the former belong to the latter - its not wholey ignorant or inaccurate to call them Czechoslovakia, just a bit dated. Anyone who knows boxing knows Larry Merchant always slips up with West Germany and no one says he needs to take a world history class.

The Czechoslovakian team that won the European Championship in 1976 was primarily made up of Slovakian lads (I think 8 of the 11).

I suppose if we had a united Ireland team in 2 years time, you could say that we have been to 6 world cups and 2 european championships(2 ROI, 1 NI), with a little star on our profile stating that the Republic beat the North on penalties in the most captivating European Final of all time in 2008, with Kevin Kilbane netting the winner.

    ...what Bungle said.

    ...oh ...and you're wrong.

Also -while it's down to common usage issue -I'm fairly sure most Czechs just call the country 'Czech'. Maybe the rest of us should give it a try too.

We don't say 'Republic of Ireland' all that often, nor 'Principality of Wales' nor 'Former Yugoslav Repulic of Macedonia'.

If the Welsh get a result in June it could really pile the pressure on.

Can he hold out until September?

The Czech Republic lay claim to the past achievements of 'Czechoslavakia' as they were the dominant of the two states politically, financially etc. Eventhough 8 of the '76 team were indeed Slovaks. This is a bone of contention in Bratislava.

Its a similar situation in Russia (USSR), Germany (West Germany) and Serbia (Yugoslavia). The USSR team of WC86 was made up entirely of Ukrainians from Dynamo Kiev.

I don't need to take World Cup history, believe me, especially not from a Septic who uses Wikipedia for his research !

    Here are a few sites to educate YOU ;

    www.fifa.com
    www.planetworldcup.com

And we don't need to 'Do the math', we can count over here.
