The criticism of Morrison is entirely unjustified. Morrison started playing international football for Ireland in the same way as many of our legends, with a tenuous connection to Ireland. He might not be in the same class as Houghton, Aldridge et alia but how can anyone fault his dedication to the team? Not only is he dedicated, but he scores goals against real teams. At home against Denmark, away against Russia, away against Scotland, at Home against Australia, away against Switzerland, home and away against Israel (AJ and Rooney didn't manage that on Saturday) not to mention one against Cyprus (forget if it was home or away). In his roughly 35 appearances for Ireland that is not a bad tally. In must win games, I'd rather have a player who can score rather a bunch of championship newcomers with potential.
"No regrets, none at all. My only regret is that we went out on penalties. That's my only regret. But no, no regrets." -Mick McCarthy
I agree, I can nearly guarantee that if Connolly or Morrison had been there in Serravalle that one of them would have scored (at least one). ****, they probably could've gone themselves the length of the pitch. However, Staunton feels the need to stress the fact the strikers have to be EPL strikers (Even if they can't get a game in the EPL)
