Ireland have managed to put up a respectable 183-8 in their truncated innings of 48 overs. Although the Irish lost an early wicket, a fifty partnership between Bray and Morgan at a good pace steadied the innings. But once they were gone, Ireland lost their way and the runs dried up. But a flurry of runs at the death got them to 183. Chasing this total should be a walk in the park for the West Indies but with rainy weather and the possibility of Duckworth-Lewis method being applied anything could happen.

Comfortable win for the Winidies in the end, the Irish never tested bowling wise and gave away cheap wickets when batting.
As seems to be a constant, one element fails while the others work fine. Bowling was ok, fielding was good, the batting didn't give them a hope in hell though. Gayle's overs were frustrating as anything to watch.
India probably out after losing to Sri Lanka.

'the big one' is coming up this friday as we get set to face the mighty england. our odds are quoted as 6/1, making england our second easiest opponents of the Super 8s(behind bangladesh). you'd imagine the players will be massively up for this and the england team could be a bit nervous. as with all the rest of our games i'm firstly hoping the team can give a decent account of themselves and that the wonders of sport can somehow lead to another remarkable win as ireland makes an impact on the cricket world. one thing i'm afraid of is that the support won't be as vociferous as in jamaica as the next few games are in guyana. people wouldnt have expected the team to progress and the government have said the country is a bit dodgy to travel to meaning the 'blarney army' wont be as numerous or vocal, but then again we're usually pretty enterprising!!

A remarkable end to the Sri Lanka-South Africa game tonight. South Africa were cruising towards their modest target of 210 when Lasith Malinga took the World Cup's first ever double hat-trick (four wickets in four balls) to place Sri Lanka within spitting distance of the most astonishing turnaround in World Cup history. Malinga almost took five in five, but shaved Langeveldt's off stump with his fifth delivery. After a few more close calls, Peterson edged another Malinga delivery for four to drag South Africa home.

I can't believe this. I came home from my German class, switched on and saw that they needed 4 runs to win with five wickets in hand, and switched over!
Saw that on the BBC highlights when I came back from the match - amazing stuff.
Incidentally, how much contempt are the BBC showing for the World Cup? Thought they would improve their highlights package for the Super 8s but they're still on later than an eircom league show on TV3. And I see that Sky have a studio in a converted palatial villa overlooking a beach in Barbados whereas BBC sit in a corner of some dive bar where the chatter of the punters drowns out their analysis.

I think the scheduling of their highlights packaging is prescribed by their agreement with Sky. Bear in mind that they haven't been able to broadcast any meaningful international cricket for almost a decade and have lost most of their talent to other networks. Nowadays they mostly focus on their superb radio coverage.
