This post is ridiculous from top to bottom with your claim that its a lot better than Championship standard yet being five/six years from bottom of Premier League standards (which are both ridiculous in their own right even looking at the quantitative, empirical evidence not to mention qualitative evidence) standing out in this perceived wide gulf in class between the top of the Championship and bottom of the Premier League.

Salaries are out - Folan's base salary is the very interesting figure of $199999.92 - it's like he was bought in a supermarket or a used car dealer - "hey guys, get a Premiership striker for under 200 grand a year" - were Colorado that close to the cap the they couldn't give him the eight cents so he could tell the folks back home that he's still earning 200k? Meanwhile, Folan's teammate, Dubliner Danny Earls is on 32k

$199,000 is roughly £121,500, so Caleb isn't on a gigantic salary (relative to football wages, not my own alas) in the US. Just over 2,300 per week.

Was looking to see if Craig Rocastle had joined up with the Grenada squad yet and found that Folan missed a penalty in the 90th minute tonight against Rocastle's Kansas City Wizards...the match ended 1-1.

    The match report says
Striker Caleb Folan made a return to the side in the 73rd minute, however, after being out since May 7 with a groin injury.
Also says the Rapids are riddled with injuries and had to play the last 10 mins with 10 men after running out of subs.
Doesn't mention a missed penalty, but
'even had a last gasp opportunity go wide as Andre Akpan redirected Caleb Folan's shot, only to see it go wide'.

Scored against San Jose at the weekend and has hit four now I think for the season, which is not bad considering he was out for a month with injuries. Tell you what, I cannot for the life of me see why he is not included in the Ireland squad. We badly need his battering ram presence up front. I know he pulled out of the end of season games, but Trap doesn't rate him anymore???

Just look at the number of long balls we played against Croatia. Had Folan been there............

If we're looking for a physical option, I'd rather have Walters or Best.

Wish I was a big lazy money grabbing ape, who could score goals like Caleb Folan. Sound like you're a real monkey yourself.

Bottom line is Folan still has something to offer Ireland. He never let us down and would be a handful for both Slovakia and Russia if he were there even for a cameo role.

Point taken about both players - Walters is a good operator and is in the squad on merit. Between Best and Folan I would go for Folan, simply because we do need a physical option (to answer your question). Much as we try to pretend we can play the ball on the floor, we really are light years behind other nations like Croatia who showed us up last week. Therefore we are forced to resort to the long ball game which is what you saw against the Croats and will see again against Slovakia. Logically then we need a big man to act as a target. I know Trap will never call Folan across from America but he's worth a spot on the bench for my money.

Mark, in fairness Trap did call him up for the end of season friendlies after last season but he didn't answer the call as he was trying to establish himself with the Rapids.

Not sure how that will sit with Trap but he has displayed flexibility with the injured players so who knows?

Problem for Folan is he's slipped down the pecking order. Trap's six strikers are now Keane, Doyle, Long, Cox, Walters and Keogh. After that I'd imagine Folan, Best, Stokes (if forgiven) and maybe Sammon are scrapping it out (not to mention the likes of Rooney, Connolly etc). Though Folan's the biggest of all of them, so he might have any edge since he provides something different.

I still think Walters is the best of that physical ilk though. And when it comes to Folan vs Best, Leon can put himself around too and looks more likely to bag a goal. Caleb's a fine worker but he's never looked like a big goal threat from what I've seen. But no doubt Trap can keep a closer eye on him now Keane's gone stateside too.

Obviously all the attention in the US tonight is on Robbie Keane but Caleb Folan does start for the Colorado Rapids tonight at home against Chivas USA. Will add any updates if he does anything of note.

Update: Folan scores his sixth of the season with a bullet of a header from 6 yards out.

    Attention from whom?
The bars will be packed across the US as Robbie Keane makes his debut.
Nat'l TV ratings expected to go from 0.3 to 0.31.
