one defeat in 10..fair enough....also 4 pts from a possible 15 on the road in this campaign..... a road that included cyprus and san marino...i say it again...4pts
“Despite their result last night, people now look on France as a footballing power and nobody refers to the wilderness years of French football when, after winning the European Championships in 1984 and finishing fourth in the 1982 World Cup and third in the 1986 World Cup, they failed to qualify for Euro ’88, Italia ’90, and US ’94. They did qualify for Euro ’92 but failed to win a game in the group stages."
They would have qualified for 1994, but for Ginola's lapse .. and a last minute Bulgaria goal .. who then performed pretty well in the US
anyway .. its a red-herring if i ever saw one .. do they think we are eejits?
What do players like Keane, Finnan, Given and Duff think? Do they realise that they will probably now never play at a European Championships? Because we are building for the future bollllox. Did not see an Irish team in the U/20 World Cup finals .. did see a very good Czech team though
Reid and Hunt should have started both games .. as most people on here suggested .. and it would have been 3 points and possibly 4 in the bag.

Bring back the plank
FAI says were going through a "Transition" period...
Failure to qualify for Switz/Austria will see us in pot 4 for WC qualifiers in Nov draw.
So we could get for example: Italy / Spain / Belgium etc...
Were on a slippery slope here.... could be "Transitioning" for a while.![]()
I'm never really that bothered about what Pot we are in tbh. I mean if for example we did well over the next couple of years and got to Pot 2, all it would mean is that we've displaced another decent, or what we would perceive to be decent football team like e.g Spain which means they then would go into Pot 3.
You still have to beat whoever is put before you and where you are "ranked" will have no baring on where you finish up.
Top Breeders recommend drinkfeckarse....
Except of course when we are in Pot 1
then we get gunned solid
God, to be able to go back in time and start again....
Wasn´t there some joke about that guy with the "gun" pointed at Stan was from the future, sent to stop the madness.
My Guarantee
Am looking for old Irish matches on VHS, PM me if you have some and I'll upload them here
I think many of us right now are in the Stan zone when it comes to ideas.
Stumbled across this today. I think it gives a fair indication of the general feeling of the Irish soccer public towards Stan.
I particularly like his introduction.... "He is currently the worst Republic of Ireland manager to have ever held the position", and the paragraph entitled "the destruction of an international football team".
Get the message Stan, step aside.

Whatever people's criticisms are I hate this type of cheap insult. That's why I enjoyed RTE's dissection last night. It wasn't an attack on the man it was a criticism of his ability to do a very demanding job.
I was more than happy to point out where Stan deserved credit recently but the reality is that any signs of improvement we've seen has been in friendlies. You can't give the manager any credit for the improvement late in the first half in Prague because the change was forced upon him, it was an obvious change and it was only reverting to the team that almost everyone would have picked to start with.
In itself a 1-0 defeat by Czech Republic is hardly much to moan about but the reality is we've been shocking in this campaign. If you qualify you'd look back on ugly 1-0 wins over Wales and Slovakia and say that, just like the big teams, it's the results that count not the performances. But when these 2 performances are the HIGHLIGHT of the campaign then it's a sorry state of affairs.
3 competitive games left and we're out and have a battle on our hands to even come third.
Dunno if its been posted here or not yet, too tired to thrawl through the
threads but did anyone notice Stan shaking hands with the subs and backroom
staff about 5 mins before the final whistle?
Didnt see it myself but one of the lads said he got it on camera.
Seemed an odd thing to do so I presumed I'd return home to see the
"Staunton Resigns" headlines ... quite disappointed to say the least.
Also, off this topic but someone in work just told me that it was on the radio
this morning that it turned out there was no bereavement in Stephen Irelands
family at all? I cant find anything online about it, apparently it was in an english
newspaper during the week, it so it it true or just someone making up stuff?
ah, found one Link here from eleven-a-side.com
