    The Irish squad has been named for the final of the Intercontinental Cup, against Canada, beginning on May 22nd at Grace Road, Leicester. Neither Boyd Rankin nor Niall O'Brien have been released. Eoin Morgan is back, for what he's worth. André Botha misses out through injury and his place in the squad (but probably not the team) is taken by fellow South African-born allrounder Thinus Fourie.

    Squad in full:

    * Trent Johnston (Railway Union) Captain
    * Jeremy Bray (Eglinton)
    * Kenny Carroll (Railway Union)
    * Thinus Fourie (Merrion)
    * Peter Gillespie (Strabane)
    * Dave Langford-Smith (Phoenix)
    * Kyle Mc Callan (Waringstown)
    * Eoin Morgan (Middlesex)
    * Kevin O' Brien (Railway Union)
    * William Porterfield (Donemana)
    * Roger Whelan (Railway Union)
    * Andrew White (Instonians)
    * Gary Wilson (Surrey)

    Still should beat Canada.

    Wilson looks a decent talent.

    Was reading again today that ireland have been invited to play in new Zealand this winter, I know Bangladesh are touring down there so it may be we´ll be asked along for a tri series. also John Mooney has explained his withdrawal from international cricket for the time being, he wants to finish his electrical apprenticeship before he returns to the game.

    It´s quite common for the 12th man to be a young player from the ground of whichever county side the test is being played at(not sure that makes sense but who cares) it seems to have done him some good though he got a 100 today but middlesex lost by 9 wickets. Porterfield not gone yet was playing for Rush in the Bob Kerr trophy, Jeremy Bray now offically at The Hills took 4-10, didn´t even know he bowled

    Ireland have started well on day one of the Intercontinental Cup final at Grace Road, Leicester. On a green seaming wicket, Trent Johnston won the toss and elected to field first. After seven overs, Canada are 15-2, Johnston and Langford-Smith having trapped the dangerous openers Barnett and Davison lbw. Canada's captain and star batsman Bagai has just been bowled shouldering arms to Johnston and the score is now 23-3.

    43-4, Porterfield takes a diving catch at point to remove Qaiser Ali and give Thinus Fourie his maiden First Class wicket. Only Samad (21*) is offering any resistance here.
