Ireland finished on 221/6 off their (rain-truncated) 48 overs. Warne took 1-36 off 10 and his Australian colleague Stuart Clark 2-36. Ireland saw off the danger men and went after the medium pacer Ervine, smashing 44 off his 4 overs. Johnston hit 52 (including two fours and three sixes) off 36 balls in an unbroken 7th-wicket stand of 57 with Kyle McCallan (21.) I've no idea about prevailing conditions, but I know the Rose Bowl was a veritable minefield at the start of last season, so 221 maybe be competitive.

TheBoss, I don't understand this reverence for all things Anglo. They're not any better than the top international sides Ireland have been competing against for the past few months. I'd ascribe their mediocre performances to fatigue and a traumatic transition to Simmons's leadership which has seen two selectors resign in the past week.

Hampshire are now 174/2 in reply Kevin Pietersen is 66 not out and former Zimbabwe International Sean Irvine is 63 not out. not looking good. Eoin Morgan made 43 of 35 balls for middlesex before rain ended the innings early.

Hampshire won by eight wickets with four balls to spare. Ireland appear to have adopted a policy of containment rather than attack, which would have come off had South African guest start Nantie Hayward not gone for 6.5 an over.

I do not mean that they are better than International sides, I mean the teams they are playing against are better than them.

Am I the only one who feels a little agrieved that Boyd Rankin has yet to play a match this season for Notts but is continually unavailable for Ireland

I was reading that the ECB want to pay the ICU 400,000 to not play the games v South Africa and India.

I think that is awful thing to do.

They tried to stop the ICU hosting the games at Stormont because they claim that any fixtures within the United Kingdown fall under the ambit of their agreement with Sky. It's understood they've threatened to expel Ireland from their one-day competitions if the games go ahead. The ICC are tacitly backing the ICU.

Could someone explain why we've seemingly stopped playing any internationals in Dublin? I'm all for spreading it around but it seems like every game worth watching is in Belfast these days.

English Opposition For Irish Series Involving India And South Africa

The Irish Cricket Union is planning to press ahead with plans to host matches involving South Africa and India this summer despite opposition from their English counterparts.

India and South Africa are due to contest a three-match one-day series in Belfast in June but the England and Wales Cricket Board have objected due to a clash with their own matches against West Indies.

England play West Indies in a Twenty20 match on June 29 and a one-day international on July 1, dates when South Africa and India are scheduled to play the second and third of their games.

The ECB are concerned about the effect on TV audiences as Indian-based Zee TV, who have the rights to the match, could sell the pictures on for broadcast in the UK.

Yet the ICU are keen to capitalise on the success of Ireland in the World Cup and have arranged the series on the proviso of gaining high-profile warm-up matches for the national side against both teams.

ICU chief executive Warren Deutrom said: "The ECB have concerns the matches are taking place at the same time as games that would provide a clash and dilute the audience.

"They don't want us to host these matches and they have asked us not to, but we have taken the decision that these matches are too important to us in capitalising on the enormous success of the World Cup and from a playing perspective."

It has been reported the ECB could drop Ireland from the Friends Provident Trophy after their next domestic restructure over the issue but both parties insist no such threat has been made.

The ECB, who have worked with the ICU to include games in Ireland in their bid document for the 2019 World Cup, hope an agreement can still be reached.

An ECB spokesman said: "We have got a fantastic working relationship with the ICU and the European Cricket Board.

"It is in no-one's interest there is a clash of televised fixtures.

"We have tried to ensure there is a structure going forward and the ECB has offered the ICU a substantial package of matches - one-day internationals and domestic fixtures - and the European Cricket Board will also receive a substantial contribution as well."
