Robbie wasn't anonymous -- he was involved but missed a great chance to equalize for the Galaxy.
It wasn't El Clįsico tonight but it had drama and was entertaining, and certainly a big night for Canadian soccer.
Things are on the up in Canadian/North American soccer and personally I'm going to enjoy the ride rather than taking unnecessary and often off-base potshots...
Great point Colbert, check out this absolutely diabolical display of football from the Whitecaps last weekend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6VAs...feature=relmfu
The Canadian clubs a getting some large, raucous crowds.
You'd think that considering the football passionate Irish influence in Saskatchewan, they could field a decent team.
I wouldn't presume but instead would confer with our passionate Saskatchewan Irish fan.

My Guarantee
Am looking for old Irish matches on VHS, PM me if you have some and I'll upload them here
I haven't checked this thread for a wee while but I thought I'd have a look to see what you good folk thought of Trap's supposed 4-4-1-1 line-up v the Czechs, with Robbie playing in the hole. Nobody here had much to say about it after the game; am I the only one who watched the game and saw the shape as 4-4-2?
I bet I'm not the only one who has spent the last few years going into work on the day after the game finding myself defending Trap against the barstoolers who complain that our football is not attractive. I would take effective over attractive any day.
However I did feel deflated after this game, when I had time to reflect. My source of deflation was lack of invention. I know we're limited in terms of quality and maybe I was expecting a bit too much from Trap's comments before the Czech game, or maybe the barstoolers are getting to me! I didn't see any comments from Trap after the game, did he change his mind about playing Robbie in the Totti role or was my reading of our formation on the night incorrect?
The talent and heritage is definitely here (Portuguese, Ukrainian, Greek, italian, Serb etc etc) but the population is just too small by North American sports standards... A sask team just wouldn't bring in enough dollars! I own a Whitecaps jersey though! Local team innit?! 1723km away...![]()
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.
First league goal of the MLS season for Robbie to give the Galaxy a 1-0 lead against DC United. A tap-in at the far post after 44 minutes but hopefully just the start he needs after a frustrating couple of games. Just half-time in LA now.
The game is live on Galavison, one of the Spanish networks over here. The commentators are alternating between affectionately calling him Keano or very formally Robert David Keane. Will update with any second half action.

Keane has just scored right before half-time in the Galaxy's match against D.C. United. Composed one-touch finish after a great header across goal from Todd Dunivant to set him up.
Second goal of the night for Robbie. Good left-footed shot from about 12 yards out.
2-0 to the Galaxy.
EDIT: 3-1 final score

first goal online here: http://www.lagalaxy.com/news/2012/03...akes-it-1-0-la
Watch Keane in the build up, demanding the ball to be played into the space in front of him
Anyone else think Keane doesn't look all that happy with scoring? Also seemed weird to me that the player between Keane and Dunivant chose to turn around and celebrate with Dunivant instead. Maybe just me but seemed a bit odd.
Ou-est le Centre George Pompidou?
I think he was just relieved to get an easy chance. It was his fourth game back for the Galaxy tonight and he'd missed a lot of chances over the last couple of weeks. He fluffed a couple tonight before getting the goal so I think he was just relieved to get that one.
His second goal is here and he definitely looks a lot happier

They're not actually being particularly formal. A lot of Hispanish folks use both parents' surnames. When I lived in Mexico, it was sometimes difficult to convey that I only had one surname, and sometimes people would innocently use my middle name as one of my surnames. The reason you so often see Hispanic players with their first name on their shirts (like Raul, or Ronaldo) is that it's shorter than their surnames (Gomez Blanco and dos Santos Aveiro respectively). Anyway, so ends the PSA.
You can't spell failure without FAI
Quote from the LA Galaxy website seems to confirm this
“I was just pi$$ed off ... at me self,” Keane, who had been frustrated by all the chances he's missed over the last couple of weeks, said when asked by reporters why he celebrated his first goal in a subdued fashion.

Keane captained the Galaxy tonight but they lost 3-1 at home to the New England Revolution. Keane got the consolation goal with 12 minutes left but they never looked like getting back into the game.

nice little GAA pick up when retrieving the ball. Berard Brogan would be proud of that. Nice goal, well taken by Keane
Folding my way into the big money!!!
