Before that I think he has been playing quite well for them . Keane rested him or dropped him for that whichever way you wanna look at it.

Hunt is not international standard and never will be.

Connolly has had his chance, it's time to move on.

Murphy didn't set the LOI alight when he was with Waterford - and, honestly, he hasn't improved that much at Sunderland to jusify a call-up. We have a long list of players in that position that are better than Murphy.
Fine then, but call up someone (maybe Jason Byrne or Glen Crowe). By the way, I wont move on with Connolly till he has retired

Didn't he score 20 goals one season when Waterford got to the Cup Final? Byrne and Crowe have been called up for similar feats. Murphy seems to be getting his game now with Sunderland and has scored a couple. That's more than others in the squad have done this season e.g. the two O'Briens, St Ledger (?), etc.

I actually think Murphy was unlcky not to be called up. However, my guess is that he thinks Lee is there as the tall option. Murphy only played 74 mins last week on his return from injury. It's not unfeasible that given Sunderland's mounting injury problems it was agreed he wouldn't travel.

Murphy will do well for Ireland in the future. I think his game is definitely improving.

He's come a long way from when McCarthy scouted him for Sunderland and Tony McDonnell had him in his pocket for 90 minutes in Belfield...!

Lads some people seem to be arguing for stikers inclusions ahead of defenders. They are not competing for the same spots. St Ledger does not get in ahead of Murphy etc. A squad is about having different types of players etc. As Stuttgart pointed out Murphy and Byrnes competition is Alan Lee.

Whats the point in sacrificing Duff's ability in the midfield for a striker we could have for no cost more than a plane ticket to Nicosia?
He couldn't possibly be planning Duff upfront and O'Brien on the left? Or even Kilbane?

I had a feeling you would mention that.
