Sums up Mc Shane for me in a nutshell. Can be dodgy defensively but good getting forward. Scores a few goals also. Unfortunately those last three statements could all be applied to Ian Harte aswell so make of that what you will.

if youd actually researched the other two games you might realise that he was not infact 'pure ****e', the falkirk website quoted him as being 'our best player by far' against aberdeen.

also anyone have any clue about how the ipswich lads got on in the CC especially billy clarke if he even played?

Ipswich went out on penalties to Peterborough in the last round. They're playing Sunderland at the weekend, which could set a record for Irishmen on the same pitch in a club game in England!

By all accounts Stokes was excellent against Aberdeen...

"Stokes, by far Falkirk’s best player, then caused havoc in the Don’s defence, shuffling to the byeline before laying off a ball across goal but it took Twaddle by surprise and the youngster’s shot flew high over the bar to the utter dismay of the home support."

Why make stuff up? Either that or somebody has been telling you porkies...

Some comments from a Falkirk message board:

Think he looks like a star of the future and we should enjoy him while he is playing for us. Previous Falkirk heroes have usually been at the end of their career while this boy is just starting. In years to come we could be saying "I watched him when he played for Falkirk". Would be great if we could get an extension to his loan until the end of the season.
he was brilliant last night plenty of pace
and some great touches and deserved man of the
match topped with a great goal
Looked the part on Saturday.....keen as mustard.

He was crap against Rangers. It wouldn't have been hard to be Falkirk's best player in the Aberdeen match they got hammerred 2-0 at home. As a striker his job is to score goals - if he doesn't score goals then no-one will care come the end of the season that he layed off a few chances in a game they got beaten 2-0.

1 goal in 3 appearances in the Scottish league for an apparently highly rated Arsenal striker is hardly pulling up trees. Even if he is only 18. Bendter is banging in goals for fun at Birmingham in a much more competitive league and he's a similar age to Stokes. Stokes isn't going to get a look in as a striker at Arsenal unless he improves dramatically, he doesn't look to be as good as Lupoli or Bendter. Get the rose tinted glasses off and be realistic.

I'd look f**king good at Falkirk on occasion.

You said he was rubbish against Aberdeen which simply isn't true. Stokes scored 1 in his first 3 for Falkirk, Bendtner scored 1 in his first 3 for Birmingham. Lupoli has managed to score in one of his 6 matches for Derby (which was a brace tbf).

    Also:
"A very tired looking Stokes was withdrawn in 73 minutes and Pedro Moutinho took over."

Give him time, he has had a very good start and isn't even fully match fit. Hartson, Larsson, Viduka, Negri, Cadete, Boyd and Van Hooijdonk are the only players to hit 20 goals in a season in the SPL in the last decade. All players that had well proven themselves in other leagues. Hartson hit 24 goals in a season with West Ham. Larsson scores loads no matter what the level. Viduka scored 22 for Leeds after leaving Celtic. Negri scored 15 Serie A goals the season before joining Rangers. Cadete scored 25 goals for Sporting in a season in Portugal before joining Celtic. van Hooijdonk scored 34 for Forest the season after leaving Celtic and also 22 in the Dutch league after that.

It's not as if he should be scoring in every match because he's in a poor league.

I hope he becomes a top striker but for every Robbie Keane or Kevin Doyle we have five like Graham Barrett, Michael Reddy, Richie Foran, Ben Burgess, Liam George, Alan Lee etc. I personally think Billy Clarke is more so the one to watch this season. Adam Rooney could also have a good year but he's just recovering his match fitness after a pre-season injury so I'll wait before making a judgement.

Manchester city's Pontin's League side lost 3-1 to Oldham Athletic's side last night. City had Michael Daly in defence.

I see Michael Timlin made his first appearance of the season last night in Central Midfield at Fulham. Pity they got beaten 2-1 by Wycombe. Steven Ireland also came on as a sub in Man Citys defeat to Chesterfield so all things considered it wasn't a great night for the young Irish players in the Carling Cup.

Stephen Ireland was one of City's better performers last night, despite his short time on the pitch. The fans can't understand why he's not playing more when the team oare obviously bereft of creativity in the middle of the park!
From the Manchester Evening News review:
Ireland (for Hamann 77): improved the team markedly because he could pass the ball

in fairness all of those players had a major advantage in that the played for celtic or rangers. im sure the likes of stokes, shane long etc would score far more goals for Celtic/Rangers than they do for their respective clubs at the moment

    hereford v leicester 1-3

McCarthy was rested as leicester overcame hereford and Maybury was restored to the line up, more significant though was Conrad Logans selection in goal, he seems to have had a busy night of it, conceding a spot kick and escaping with a booking and also making several fine saves.

he is featured in this report a few times,

    p. heffernan started for doncaster and was eventually subbed towards the end of the game which was drawn 3-3. sean thornton came on and o'connor scored the winning penalty which sent them through. not sure which o'connor he is though.
