I'm not making them, thank God! An Everton fan does them on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/user/EFCmatchcomps/videos?view=0

According to last line of this report, it seems "our" wee Darron has lost his appetite for international football for foreseeable future

A couple of things that strike me about the Gibson debate:
    1. That video is very impressive but if Trap actually gave him a game in a competitive match ahead of Paul Greene or somebody of that ilk, he would never get so many touches of the ball. Everton are rarely route one in spite of having a target man like Fellaini.
    2. Ireland, unless we start picking players like Long, Hoolahan and McCarthy do not have anything approaching the quality of players of Everton so, again, Gibson would not see half as much of the ball and when he did, his options would be limited as we would be entrenched on our own half. Also, players of lesser quality make poorer decisions when taking up positions off the ball so this problem would be compounded.
This is not to say that he shouldn't be picked ahead of some of the other candidates, of course he should. I just wouldn't expect a YouTube clip as long as that one to emerge after the match. You would then predict a wave of "I told you sos" from Trap apologists.

It's possible that rather than having little appetite for playing for Ireland per se, his fundamental issue is with playing under Trap. He expressed an eagerness to play but obviously felt shunned in some way.

I expect Darron has a bit more spare time these days.

I suspect Gibbo is awaiting the post-Trap era.

If he is, then I'd hope the post-Trap manager gives him short shrift.

I think Gibson's guff about being disappointed with the Euros and needing time to get over it blah blah.... just shows the level of cynicism not only in the professional game, but also amongst alot of "da precious youth" of today... Even the way his actions are being justified by some on here makes me shake my head...
There used to be saying about NASA astronauts needing "the right stuff" to do their job for their country.... well it was quite clear to me the moment he withdrew from the Kazak match squad that he didn't possess "the right stuff" and a few long passes for his paymasters on Merseyside won't change my mind on that one.

Let him sit in the local town park on Thursday afternoon in February lamenting his lack of gametime in the Euros (just don't forget to bring some bread for the pigeons!)

Not particularly earth-shattering against Stoke yesterday, but didn't do much wrong. Same could be said for Coleman.

Fair point. it should be remembered though that gibson went through a tough process to move from the norths set up to ours with all the hassle that brings with it due to his determination to play for his country so I think people are a bit out of line suggesting he does not want to play for us

In case you misinterpreted me, I wasn't attempting to justify his self-imposed exile. Not sure others have been either, to be honest. Who has been justifying it? I was merely speculating as to his motivations; he has been accused of being disinterested in playing for his country when his primary (or even solitary) issue might well be with Trap and his selection policy. There's a distinction there. His willingness to play for Ireland is evidently conditional on some other factor - which doesn't fit with the romantic and unconditional ideals of supporterdom, I admit - but there's still a willingness there, if we are to take his word for it. Personally, I'd like to think I could see past personal grudges if offered the opportunity to play for my country, but I think it's still a distinction worth pointing out in this instance; to assert that Gibson simply doesn't want to play for Ireland (à la Stephen Ireland) would be to tarnish him unfairly. It's easy for fans to get sanctimonious and claim they'd be willing to play for Ireland unconditionally if offered the chance, but Gibson's free to do as he pleases and I don't think this issue is as black-and-white as simply saying he doesn't want to play for us. Anyway, irrespective of all that, far from attempting to justify his decision, I've repeatedly made clear that I view it as petulant and ill-advised. I also think Trap would be well entitled to ignore him in the long term if Gibson is unwilling to come to terms with his position soon.

It reminds me of people accusing James McCarthy of lacking commitment in latter times when a niggling injury led to him pulling out of a few internationals after having voluntarily subjected himself to years of abuse in Scotland by virtue of his decision to play for us earlier in his career.

I'm not sure how many were listening to the excellent Stephen Hunt doing co-commentary on Newstalk's West Brom-West Ham game today.
What a breathe of fresh air it is to hear an unaffected, honest pro talking about the game with balance and maturity. Accepting his lack of game-time in Poland without concocting some elaborate wrestling style "heal" versus "face" debacle with the manager. Didn't hear Stephen moan about his embarrassment and his family being out there and not getting on the pitch. In what he said today, Hunt certainly displayed the merits of a broad apprenticeship in the game with the likes of the lowly Brentford as opposed to the more "me me me" celebrity divaesque mentality mentality youngsters are now adopting at the bigger clubs. Read Liam Brady on Arsenal youths in latest FourFourTwo magazine in this regard.

Gibson attitude stinks. Ok yes maybe he was hard done by during the summer but he wasnt the only one. Plus there were plenty of times in the past when he got game time for Ireland when he really did not deserve it. Cop the fcuk on DG and man up.

Separately reports in the Times today that a few players have called for Brady to return to the set up to improve communication between management and players.

Have sympathy for both points of view. For Gibson's 'supporters' and detractors.

He should wise up. But he's not the only player (or prospective one) Trap's alienated, which is why after next March, we'll all be probably hoping 'Gio' leaves at the first opportunity...

He did handle things wrongly post Euros, but as said above he also did have to switch associations and the attendant fallout in order to play for us. I just get the feeling he was told he was competing for the spot next to Whelan, with McCarthy and on two levels this was a bit much for him to take, 1: he had been to the Euros and suffered the footballing indignity of seeing Paul Green sent on Vs Spain ahead of him and despite this, McCarthy was to get the nod first in the first post finals friendly, and 2: it was and is surely time for he and McCarthy to start together, he will be training with Andrews/Green/Whelan and will be keenly aware that clearly lesser players are being repeatedly selected ahead of him, there is bound to be a tipping point when this nonsense continues despite the collapse at the finals.

Yes, he handled it wrong, but there are mitigating circumstances here also. Its unfair to say he should want to play for his country, when all he has done is exhibit the will to do just that, but keeps coming up against a manager who is intent on selecting donkeys by comparison ahead of him.

Just got sent off for a high foot, the second time the ref has produced a red card for a highly questionable reason.
