    RTEs The Premiership

For the second week in a row this show has not shown highlights or even the goals from the game involving Man Utd.

Now I know this will make many people thrilled - but what is up?

Is there a dispute with MUFC and RTE?

Just wonderin' cos it bloody peculiar!

Yeah Sky match only finished at 7pm whereas RTE programme already started.

They'd shouldn't bother showing highlights of matches that have been on tv already that day as anyone with interest will already have watched.

its worse when RTE show the game then show extended highlights of the same game again .

but the worst thing on sat the show was 1 3/4 hours long yet they had to squeze two games at the end dont talk about the game dont show all the incedents

the two games they barely showed were everton v blackburn and fulham v wba .

everton game had 1 goal 1 red card 6 bookings the woodwork was hit twice and 3 goals were disaloud .yet all they show was the red the goal and 1 save .

worse was the fulham game a game with 7 goals !!!!! and they stick it in at the end .

i thought when the show was 1 hour they had to squeze stuff in but 1 3/4 is plenty of time to show decent highlights of all games and have a chat about the teams too .

I think RTE only have so many commentators at so many games so they are only going to show major incidents from the games they dont have a commentary at. I think the Premiership is a good show all in all.

I'd like a change in the editorial focus on that programme, with at least some of the analysis focusing on nothing but the performances of the Irish involved in any of the games.

Someone complaining about lack of MAN UNITED on RTE? What a relief to be spared from the overblown preoccupation slave minded slobbering over them.

I'm afraid I fall into this category of thinking..

Same with Liverpool and Chelsea - I know it is a necessary use for them to just show the big teams, but it gets repetitive - even showing Liverpool when there is a more entertaining game on. I can get the Liverpool highlights elsewhere - when RTÉ or anyone else showcase the Premiership, I want to see a good game worthy of showing, not just a bad one because it includes the top four particularly as the general standard at least outside of the top 6 or 7 is terrible...

that we've gone and won two-in-a-row
and it's not gonna be three
and it's not gonna be four
it's more likely to be 5-1.

It's probable that RTE have commentators attending their live EPL games but for the highlights package, the premiership, it all sounds exactly like studio commentary. Sky presents them with the game highlights with the crowd noise but with no commentary.
No doubt that I am biased but no matter what the sport is, RTE's studio punditry/discussion is always a first choice with me.

On such a subject, geysir, when George Hamilton (and his wife) came down to do the commentary for the vital Athlone Town v Derry City game back in the 90s when Derry needed a win or a point to nail the league, the bauld George and his missus sat in the small stand and just watched the game.
He then went up to the RTE studios in St. Mary's Square and added the commentary there and you'd swear he had been commentating live. I know 'cos I was chatting with him and his missus for the whole match and filling them with cups of tea and Gateaux cakes all afternoon. (as well as doing the PA, Press releases etc)
Eurosport do a lot of commentary from studio as well too.

Gateaux were our sponsors then and we used to get free boxes of all their stuff and I never, ever, ever, want to even see a Gateaux swiss roll, bun or chocolate cake again.

Does anyone think the current programme is far too long?
Most of the games featured are poor with crap teams playing (like dfx said) and it can bloody boring.

Do any of you look at the games because there are Irish guys playing? I've seen Reading a lot 'cos of Kevin Doyle and Shane Long and they're a smashing side to watch - play lovely football and will fit nicely into the Premiership next season.

I agree with both dfx and sirhamish

The Premiershi* is almost unwatchable outside the top teams and Everton. I happen to like counter-attacking football
against very attack minded sides it's the perfect blend to have 1 of each type of team on the field at the same time.

The Old Division 1 1888 to 1992 was of a higher standard from quality of teams and competitiveness point of view.
( Teams like Burnley, Preston, Aston Villa, Derby County, Nottingham Forest, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton used to win the League in those days... will never happen again for any of the above)

The rebrand may have worked in terms of bums on seats, but from an aesthetic and sport viewpoint it has led to lopsided Divisions with overly inflated budget teams playing against teams with almost no budgets.

I prefer Bundesliga ( more competitive) Serie A ( more skillful players) Primera Liga( overall better league).
And I enjoy the EL more too because it 's ( not very predictable).
