This forum hasn't been posted to for a couple of years now, so unless there are any objections, I'll be archiving it next week.
A pity - it used to be the nerve centre of the place! I think that was before the split that caused YBIG though. And of course the takeover of the likes of WhatsApp in particular.
The Faroe Islands thread from 2005 was one of the great foot.ie threads.
It's going back a while now, but in 2005 there were two Ireland fanzines launched. The Genesis Reporter was one (I was a contributor to that, as well as a number of other foot.ie posters of the time - a Cork fan, Troy.McClure, was editor as I recall) and You Boys In Green was the other. They were both launched at the same game I think - it's even possible the posts on here about the Genesis Reporter were seen by someone who'd been thinking about setting up YBIG and prompted them into action. The Genesis Reporter was more rough and ready (in common with a lot of fanzines of course) while YBIG was a more professional production - more like a programme, and it was free at games too as I recall; a lot of advertising in it helped. But they complimented each other I thought; there'd be very different content in each. The Genesis Reporter only ran for a couple of issues though whereas YBIG had maybe 10 issues before going online (I think)
Anyway, Mento (who was involved with YBIG) signed up here to promote the fanzine (and nothing particularly wrong about that; it was the peak years of forums in general when lots of people were joining up) and as I recall dahamsta was a bit concerned he was starting to use foot.ie for personal commercial use and asked him to dial it down a bit. The result was a bit of a tiff and a split which saw the YBIG forum set up (in 2007 it seems, looking at the oldest thread there) and because it was established as the main Ireland fanzine, a fair few posters followed it over there, and certainly the Fans' Forum here was much quieter thereafter (and also because forums have gotten much quieter in general, and people moved on to a new stage of life where they couldn't go to every away game). The posters who stayed here were generally speaking the LoI fans - the LoI forum here is still fairly active of course, and back then this would have been the main forum for the likes of Cork, Sligo, UCD, Bray and maybe one or two others, and the LoI fans would post across all those forums - which is why there's no real LoI chat on YBIG worth talking about.
I stand to be corrected on a lot of that of course - it's 15+ years ago now - but that's my recollection of it anyway.

Well you learn something new everyday...thanks for that stu, much appreciated!
I was completely unaware of the YBIG link, and it explains why this forum is (consequently) more LoI orientated.
Thanks again.
The first item on the agenda in any Irish organisation - the split!
