Replied to a tweet last night about their coverage of the LOI. Said they would struggle to spell it, never mind have a discussion on it.

Jesus that was a vomit-inducing read. He actually tried to compare the Euros to a Mayo vs Galway match in Castlebar. What a self-righteous bellend!

For you though, I'll make an exception.

It's sh!te that Dundalk now have the financial clout to go on and dominate the league. If they spend wisely, they will be untouchable for years. That's where Shamrock Rovers screwed up their operation, and I'd expect Dundalk to be a little smarter about how they spend their money.

    But:

    - An improved Oriel Park is good for the league. €7 million would do a lot for Oriel Park. Anything that helps improve facilities for fans is good for the league.
    - The media attention tonight alone will be good for the league. You can be damn sure there'll be a couple hundred extra on the gate in Galway on Friday night for the visit of Dundalk after that result. People are talking about the league of Ireland. That is a good thing.
    - For years and years, we've had to listen to rubbish, constant tripe from people who call the league a 'pub league'. Maybe, just maybe, there's some vindication, some justification for supporting League of Ireland teams tonight. Hopefully Cork do the business tomorrow night too and provide a little bit more justification. Our teams can compete at the highest level. It's not as bad as people make out. Potentially a team in the Champions League and Europa League at the same time might just make a few people sit up and take note.
    - The League of Ireland is a close-knit community. These gestures of support provide a sense of pride in each other. In no other league do you see anything like this. In turn, it relaxes tensions between fans. Not all the time, but most of the time. I can see nothing but benefit from simply showing a bit of support. Coming across like a jealous auld fart does nothing to help anyone.
    So in summary:

A couple of quid for Galway Friday.

A new stand in Oriel Park.

And it's nice for your feelings.

Better effort but still nothing really tangible is it??

They are all self-righteous bellends. Their collective egos cost them their place on Newstalk in a row over money, and now they're reduced to muck like that in what has to be the worst paper for LOI coverage.

Am not all that convinced it'll improve Galway's gate on Friday to be honest.

I actually can't do the maths Stu...

Was lookin at the CL prize money on Wikipedia:

    • First Qualifying Round: €200,000
    • Second Qualifying Round: €300,000
    • Third Qualifying Round: €400,000
    • Play-offs Eliminated: €3,000,000

    Does this mean that Dundalk are guaranteed a minimum of €5.4 mill (3mill + 2.4mill(as base fee for UL group stage)), or a minimum of €6.3 mill (200k + 300k + 400k +3mill + 2.4mill)??

    I think your (Philosophizer) €6.3 plus .550 as League Champions…so €6.85.
    No?

This would be huge help to Dundalk it goes without saying. Still 10 mins left, they have been pretty average in the match to be honest.

Would Hapoel Sheva be seeded? That would be a nice one to get if so.
    You've got no fans.

Astana have just equalised against Celtic. 2-2 on aggregate. Great finish from distance with the keeper well off his line after he'd come out to head the ball away. Only problem was it arrived straight to an Astana player.

Who would be next in line to take Celtic's place in the draw?

Legia take Olympiakos' (assuming Legia don't chuck it away now) and Dinamo Zagreb take Celtic's. Much of a muchness in both cases.

Given the choice, I would rather face Celtic than Dinamo Zagreb.
