Predicted 1-1. Was very surprised on odds checker, how short the odds were on a Dundalk win. Always going to be very tight over the 2 legs. This one could go all the way...

Same old failings, lads work their socks off for the whole game, and one players sloppiness punishes the whole team. Until this kinda stuff is eradicated there will never be consistent progression. The odd good result here and there and that's it.

Disappointing for sure, but by no means over. Dundalk more than capable of getting a goal over there.

This tie was always going to settled in the 2nd leg, I would be still be hopeful of progression as Dundalk are usually good away from home. Also, Stephen Kenny has won the most away matches as a manager of LOI club in Europe (W4 D2 L7).

Got a text from someone at it who said that Dundalk left that one behind. By far the better team overall.

Ya but these teams are always happy to just sit back away from home and then go for it and win it in the second leg at home.

You can never really judge these teams on the away first leg.

I'm not judging any team. From what I have heard Dundalk were the better team on the night and that's all I said.

If you look at Dundalk away under Kenny, you could argue that they've been far more impressive in those games. Particularly against good Eurpean sides like BATE & Hadjuk. They will not fear going to FH and getting a result.

From the LOI, only Dundalk could give FH a game and I said it would be 50/50, it still is but I expect FH to shade it.
Unlike some others here, I won't use my wild imagination to figure out what actually happened at Oriel pk and attempt to make knowledgeable sounding statements about teams like FH and what transpired at the game.
That would define the essence of conceit.

Just how does anyone tolerate that idiot of a co-commentator on Dundalk fm, to say he knows nothing would be a complement, absolute nonsense is his speciality and he delivers it non-stop.

Dundalk were on top for 75% of the match and should have won quite comfortably.

FH had a decent spell for about 15 minutes in the first half when Gartland was trying to play through injury. Other than that they offered no goal threat, it was just a question as to whether Dundalk could score.

After getting a good goal, Dundalk then gave FH an equaliser though a poor defensive clearance. However, I said during the game that Dundalk looked like they had a mistake in them.

The defensive shakiness that was evident against Longford was there again. FH will have learned a lot about Dundalk tonight and will be more dangerous opponents next week.

Don't know how to judge that match. Dundalk were poor so many lads had off nights but were the better side.

Horgan, Massey, Boyle, Gannon, O'Donnell, Finn all guilty of indecision

I thought we would of seen more from FH. I think they are shaky at the back and their keeper is weak under crosses.

I think we will score over there. It's not over by a long shot

    A strangely dissatisfying match.

Agree with Jinxy that so many Dundalk players were well below normal standard. It is doubly frustrating that it was clear that they were still the better team on the night and should have taken a lead into the 2nd leg. FH deserve credit for how they closed down Dundalk, especially in the 2nd half.

The tie is far from done and the 2nd leg has the potential to be a fascinating tie. FH will face a dilemma in how to approach the game, while Dundalk are well capable of winning away - I just hope the sloppy goal conceded does not come back to haunt

I listened to the match and paid heed to the commentators and thats what I gleaned. They were the ones saying it was a sloppy mistake a careless goal to give away. It seems like Dundalk played well enough without creating many clear cut chances.

No judgements just going on experience of how these teams operate away from home first. Always seems a completely different proposition in the return home leg. I am not saying anything outlandish or way off the mark here.

From my pov Paul it was a litany or errors starting with horgan not clearing then Masseys clearance not making touch then o donnell and Barrett dithering over a clearance and lennon popping it in the back of the net.

Criminal goal to give away at that level.

I'd a feeling we all knew it was going to happen

Jinxy, I'd always take the opinio of someone at the game than someone listening to, or watching on tv. That's fair enough, the lads on DunDaaaaaaawwwwwwlk Fm made out it was more an individual mistake. I like Kenny, I think he deserves his break, he has been there or there abouts for years, some great performances like PSG, BATE, IFK etc. He was upbeat this morning.

TOD was saying that the game had a potential 1.2mil riding on it, was that total money if they got through this tie, and then had the next round, and/or dropping to Europa, or needing to win the next round? He also I thought wrongly stated group stages prematurely by winning the next one.

1.2m minimum if they beat FH and lose the next two rounds.
If they beat FH and win the 3rd qualfying round, they are guaranteed a place in the Europa League group stages, as 4th Q round losers get an automatic spot in the Europa League proper

Cheers the 1.2 mil I was unsure of, but is that to lose in CL 3rd round and then lose in Europa league play-off round? What if the progression to the final round of the CL, how much is that worth? Its probably better not to question these things at this stage..

Ya I am aware of the stages, and losers in the 3rd I think go into the last round, "A total of 44 teams are expected to play in the play-off round: the 29 winners of the third qualifying round, and the 15 losers of the 2016–17 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round."

But Tony didn't put it like that, or maybe I picked him up wrong. I think he meant Europa Group stages but said it like the CL Group stages.
