Boyle has been in team of the season for the last 2 years. He's not Russian so he must be there by merit.
So many times I've wondered what could have been for Drogs if that ball had trickled behind the line or if Hughes had scored his chance... it really was an unfathomable miss. Drogs future could have been so different. But then i think, the way the club was being run at the time it probably wouldn't have mattered if they had beaten Kiev because they'd likely have spunked away that cash and still ended up bankrupt anyway. Only if they had qualified for the group stages of the CL or the EL would they have been able to keep up their spending.
2008 was the first season I really started to follow the LOI (Thanks MNS!) and I can really remember the two matches against Kyiv. They were two fantastic, exciting matches. the first leg Drogs keeper made some amount of saves to keep it at 2-1 and then the second leg jumping out of the seat when Hughes got the chance and then the disbelief when it went over. While the second chance wasnt as clearcut at first, the agony of seeing the ball roll across the line after hitting the post was actually worse than the first chance. Just thinking about it now if it felt that bad for a neutral (I hadn't begun supporting Pats massively at that stage), How bad must it have been for the Drog fans?
They'd probably have lost in the next round and not made the group stages anyway - and so at best just matched Shels.
Granted, Kiev did beat Spartak 8-2 in the next round, and went on to reach the UEFA Cup semis, but I don't know if that means Drogheda would have won through. I think Kiev got a huge root up the hole at almost losing to a team managed by Paul Doolin and with Ibrahima Thiam up front.
How can I watch this in Engrrland?
I remember that game well, wasnt it the american buck that hit it over the bar from 6 yards, I actually wondered how it was possible to get that height over it, the trickle sticks out not as much for me because there was actually a man with an almost completely open goal and all he had to do was keep it low. Great game to watch, serious excitement but difficult. And what was around the time when Chicken were actually doing well in Europes main competition.

What a difference less than a week makes. Very little build up to the match on here or in the media. To be fair Dundalk need a miracle to progress so can understand how low key the game is this week.
As usual, I expect Dundalk to be more effective away from home and think they'll give Legia a good game. Dundalk to score 1st to give Legia a scare before they equalise and play out for a draw knowing they are through.
3 1 dundalk for me
Forgot the game was on tonight. Definitely a huge shift in attitude and expectation from the first game. Let's hope Dundalk can feed off that and go out and surprise anyone. This could be an historic night.

Anyway of seeing it over here without BT Sport 3?

The only positive pre-match for me is that they have nothing to lose and history to gain. Hopefully the players are thinking along those lines. There was not a lot between the teams in the 1st leg, just that debatable first goal which caused Dundalk to be rattled for a bit but they composed well but in saying that they failed to be an attacking force against a team that was there for taking imo. To lose 2-0 was a really terrible result considering the way the game went perhaps lack a of European experience at this stage made the difference.
Legia are capable of winning 2 or 3 to nil. Dundalk nearly turned around the deficit to Split a two years ago. I'm hopeful Dundalk will score and realistic that Legia will score.
If Dundalk are somehow 2-1 up with 10-15 minutes to go, you'll imagine there might be a golden chance. Drogheda didn't take their's in Kiev '08. Shamrock Rovers took their's in Belgrade '11. Best of luck Dundalk!

A Championship: 4 years - 8 first teams - 0 financially ruined. First Division '14: 7 first teams.
Opportunity lost for new clubs/regions to join the LoI family.
Best of luck to dundalk tonight. The tie is beyond them at this stage unfortunately but would be good if they made it interesting by going a goal up. Hard to see them not conceding

"Now jump up there and stuff that son of a bitch in the basket, chief"
