Ahh,the good aul league cup always brings out the best in the lads,I'd trade a place in the league cup final for one in the CL quarters any day of the week.I'm NEARLY sick of winning the third best trophy in England.

14 August 1999. I was there and loved every minute. Liverpool were utterly awful. I think my own mother, God bless her, would have scored against the Reds that day.

Anyway, mypost, here's a nostalgic link for you written from the winner's perspective. Enjoy.

    Thumbs up James Beattie

Young Osman to the rescue again last night! Sweet finish it was too! Some win over a very useful Portsmouth side. Stubbs once again proved his value to the side. Solid as a rock.

Beattie will prove to be bargain of the season. He's a class act and with Kilbane's pace down the flank I can see James being a real hero with the Goodison faithful. It's a sign of the times when you see quality like him arriving at Everton.

Scandalous to see the Mancs get a point from that game last night. Mendes got a perfect legitimate goal and for some reason it wasn't given. That sort of thing would only happen at Old Trafford though. Robbie Keane was the only one I seen disappointed at the final whistle. Great performance from Spurs but I'd be livid if I were Martin Jol.

It was a poor game and poor decision from the ref to deny the peno.
I disagree, I spent the whole bloody day complaining about it and the day after, have really only come to terms with it in the last day or so.
The way the game was going it was heading for a 0-0 draw
The worst Liverpool should have got was a draw and with a penalty or two might have even won the game.
I do think the removal of Alonso from the game by Lampard had more of an effect than the penalties that were not given.
If one were a conspiracy theorist one might think that it was a deliberate plot to take Liverpools most dangerous player out of the game and negate them offensively which is exactly what happened.
Chelsea got lucky, Its a bloody cruel game sometimes.

    Fair enough they were robbed of what would've been the winner, but ffs -Shots - 23 v 7, On Target - 16 v 4, Odd Target - 7 v 2....

No question that it should've been a goal, but at the same time you'd swear spurs were all over United and should've been winning anyway....

You never get sick of winning trophies, however low down the priority they may be. If we finish 6th in the league, we'd have to win the league cup to qualify for Europe. Let's face it, we've no chance of winning the CL now, have we?

As for Plastic, if we play most of our first team in the first leg next week, and play like we have been at home this season, the Watford fans there, may need to bring an abacus to count up the goals we score.

Everton won't make Europe, its the same as three seasons ago when they were great in the first half of the season and just didn't care after reaching 42 points to avoid relegation.

Talking through your John Thomas Aldini98. Toffees will definitely get a European spot. Th question remains will they get CL??

I also reckon Everton are a good outside bet for the FA Cup this season. The ten year wait might just be coming to an end! Beattie to score on his debut against Plymouth at the weekend too.

dream on mate, they'll finish 7th as they did three years ago, most of the team are out of contract in the summer and won't give a toss.

Stick around Aldini. I'll be keeping my eye on this thread for a few months yet to see if Mister Dillo is still as confident come April as he seems to be just now...

Real Madrid are sniffing around Thomas Gravesen. If they bid he'll be off quicker than you can say bitter, and that'll be Everton up **** creek....

    Thumbs up Tommy G

Sign of the times though 4tothefloor when you see a team like Real Madrid sniffing down Goodison way. Tommy G is staying put anyway. Both teams might meet each other in next year's CL- that'll be the closest Real will get to Gravesen. He's the one who's shovelling the coal into our steady locomotive. Long may it continue!

Gravesen is the only decent international player that ye have. Big deal Sign of the times? In case you haven't noticed, Real have shopped frequently at Liverpool in recent times, namely McManaman and Owen, and are currently trying to get first option on Steven Gerrard. The irony is, they could sign by far and away yer best player, but he'd be little more than a squad player at Madrid.

BTW, the only time Everton will ever get to meet Real Madrid in europe is on the playstation

Plastic Paddy and 4thefloor, ye are far removed from reality. The Toffees are going to finish above Liverpool this season and Dillo will have the last laugh. By then Dillo will probably have scored as many times as an in-form James Beattie.

Is an in-form James Beattie a guy who scores goals, or a guy who polishes off other peoples left-overs at the dinner table? Because after watching him against Plymouth, it's the latter for me. Liverpool fans are $hitting themselves everywhere (Something JB could do with doing, by the looks of things )
