    League Cup 2015

    Fixtures over next few days.

Date Comp Home Club Away Club Venue Kick-off
09/03/2015 EAS Cup Galway United Finn Harps Eamonn Deacy Park 7.45pm
09/03/2015 EAS Cup UCD Cabinteely The UCD Bowl 7.45pm
10/03/2015 EAS Cup Bohemians Athlone Town Dalymount Park 7.45pm
10/03/2015 EAS Cup Drogheda United Shelbourne United Park 7.45pm
10/03/2015 EAS Cup Sligo Rovers Mayo League The Showgrounds 7.45pm
10/03/2015 EAS Cup Cobh Ramblers Limerick St. Colman's Park 8pm
10/03/2015 EAS Cup Crumlin United Bray Wanderers Pearse Park 8pm
10/03/2015 EAS Cup Wexford Youths UCC Ferrycarrig Park 8pm

Would it not have been a better idea to play these next week instead? Many people will be taking Monday off to make a four day weekend and might be more likely to attend a game. In general I think LOI midweek games might be better on Bank Holidays where ever possible.

These games are too early after opening weekend anyway it's crazy. Should play them were before season starts get it out of way, who cares about LC anyway?

Huge game for Limerick I think. A loss will be a serious sign that a doom laden season is in the offing.

Sure Yel probably play a second string? And given your squad isn't very big or strong would it really be a massive surprise if Cobh won? Id be more worried if we come down and batter ye in 2 weeks then youl be in trouble given Bohs already turned ye over with ease at home.

Dundalk enjoyed it last year, albeit they probably won't care now they have another trophy in the bag. The LC might not mean much in terms of packing crowds in but for the hardcore of fans, winning it's a big deal for most clubs I'd say.

When you get to the final it becomes a big deal I think and we certainly enjoyed winning it in 2004, especially as it was in front of a big crowd in Longford.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.

Who actually schedules these games? You've got Man Utd v Arsenal on tonight and the Champions League on the Tuesday. How can you compete with that in whats the lowest priority cup competition in the league.

In any event, I think the early stages of the League Cup should be played before the start of the season.

Well that's probably the logic. There's some truth to what outspoken says, most people couldn't be arsed about a first round league cup game, so just throw it on a Monday when it can least affect your bottom line.

Was massive for us as well at the time and proved a real turning point in our history.
When you've won next to nothing for long enough it's always to be savoured and it gives the players a taste of success which can't be underestimated.

I'd really like to see Pats win it as we done fairly poorly in it in recent years plus Bucko is only the League Cup and Setanta Cup away from winning all Domestic available trophies with Pats.
    Here on a technicality.

In the 90s we used to run off the group games in pre-season. It seems sensible, give everyone a couple of semi-competitive games to get warmed up. Dundalk certainly enjoyed the final and it was important to get an actual trophy under out belt. But up the the semi it was an entirely reserve team, and it was a mainly reserve team in the final too. Another small change I'd make is seed the First Division teams at home to Premier teams where possible.

From the look of pictures, the attendance in Terryland tonight is similar to that of Salthills attendances at the same venue a few years ago.

    Galway 1-0 Harps.

Cunningham with the goal. Seemingly a good period of pressure from Harps and caught on the break.

Supposedly more Harps fans than Galway fans tonight...which is saying a lot.
