    Waterford

In a match which was dominated by the awfulness of Waterford, particularly their defence, the Youths were given a comfortable three points as the Blues coughed up soft goal after soft goal. Youths started with Graham in goal, Brian, CJ, Jamie, James, Shane N., Craig, Patsy, Danny and what looked like Aidan and Tom up front. The use of two big men up front was exactly what was needed on the night as it kept the ball where the Blues didn't want it, in their own third. Waterford started the brighter of two nervous sides, and Wexford were hemmed in for the first five. However, Frost got an early yellow for impeding Danny when he tried to break from his own half. After eight, Aidan got a shot away but it went a couple of yards wide. With ten gone, the Youths had two good chances when Tom had a free header from a cross but it was blocked away by Hughes and the rebound was knocked away by a Blues defender.

With fifteen gone, Aidan broke free down the left and crossed a pinpointer to the far post to Tom who stooped a header home with the Blues centre-halves nowhere to be seen. A few minutes later, Waterford had a good chance when their right-winger was found clear on the right but his goal-bound shot was cleared by a Youths defender for a corner with Graham beaten. With half the first half gone, Shane Nolan picked up a yellow for a tackle and WAterford also picked up a yellow. Just after the half-hour, Danny took a free-kick which looked like a routine catch for Hughes, but he parried the ball when he hadn't time to do so and Shane N.bundled it just over the line for a a second goal which was given by the ref. With three minutes to go in the half, an even worse goal was conceded when the two Blues centre-halves let Tom Elmes waltz through without even attempting a tackle or tracking him back to enable him to slot it past Hughes for 3-0. Then just on the blow, Frost got a second yellow when he made contact with a Youths player who had taken the ball off him to bring the Blues town to ten men at halftime for 3-0 to the Youths.

WJ Kiely came on for Darragh Walsh at half-time for the Blues and with five gone in the half, the YOuths got their fourth when Shane Nolan was allowed turn in the box and get a shot away which Hughes knocked up for Tom to head into the emtpy net for his hat-trick and 4-0. Game then fell into a pattern of the Youths breaking forward each time Waterford lost the ball and two more goals followed when Aidan Keenan was put through and finished with admirable composure for 5-0 and with a few minutes to go, Tom took a low shot from the edge of the box which went into the right hand-corner for 6-0 and his fourth. Subs for Wexford during this period were Deano who also had a good chance, Mark Phelan and Thomas Croke.

The heads dropped for Waterford as the goals went in and WExford looked the hungrier in the tackle and around the pitch as the game went on. WAterford look to have serious problems in defence. 6-0 at full time with about 650 at it, I reckon. Best for Wexford were probably Tom, Craig and CJ but it would be far too early to say we've turned a corner.

Agree with that, we were good but Waterford were terrible. The next couple of games will tell a lot but I'm quietly confident we'll do far better then last year!

Hmm, not too sure about that. Is there not somewhere better to put a camera? And possibly use a bit of zoom? Can't make out what happened there for the first 2 goals so didn't bother watching on.

Yeah, Extratime originally attributed it to Danny bit I see they have now changed it to Shane Nolan. I think Shane also claimed it on Twitter.
