Lucky enough to be going out with someone who hates Valentine's day as much as I do.
And would much rather spend/have money spent on going on an adventure somewhere interesting than on some grossly overpriced flowers and useless jewelry.
And just to cement my reputation as a cynical misogynist, I had a discussion the other night about wedding rings. Apparently you're now supposed to spend 3 months wages (thanks, Americans!). That's not going to happen unless the lucky girl is chipping in 50%. I'm fully supportive of equal rights for women, but demanding that expensive things are bought for them with no effort going the other way doesn't really fall under this.
So that's why I split the bill in restaurants, don't buy girls drinks unless they want to get into rounds, don't do Valentine's Day, and am probably going to end up dying alone!
Will be easier to screw if you do the romance bit first though.

Am looking for old Irish matches on VHS, PM me if you have some and I'll upload them here
Yes, but romance doesn't have to come in financial form. I can love someone plenty without having to prove it by shelling out obscene amounts of cash on overpriced annular tokens of committment!
Don't get me wrong, I love doing nice things for my gf, but it has to be a two-way street (and not in the sense of "I buy you a necklace, you do all sorts of naughty things"). Girls who think they're entitled to be showered with gifts and never give anything back as the norm aren't going to get anywhere with me. If I was going out with someone who was earning the same amount as me, I would appreciate it if they were also coming out with half the gestures. It's not too much to ask that if I pay for a romantic meal one week, they pay for the football tickets the next!
Totally agree with you Peader. I have never been or never could be all take like that and the trip to relics, cheap flowers at the market day was great without much money being spent. It's never about the money but akways abiut tge thought and effort and not just on Valentines day.
