It's looking more likely that there will be no club left in Europe by the end of July. A symptom of the quality in the league itself.Originally Posted by swinfordfc

In general, if were to look at the league this season, it does give opinion that standard this season has not been the best. Sligo are winning the league not playing well, Drogheda, a team expected to down in the bottom half are second, Pats are supposedly playing great football are behind Drogheda, Shamrock Rovers are stuggling badly, it does give a perception that the quality of team performances had dropped.
Rovers just did'nt look like scoring until they got the peno. They did'nt cause the Ekranas keeper any trouble all night.
Pats and Sligo are in with a very good chance of progressing from their ties imo. I know Sligo are two goals down but Trnava looked tired near the end of the game last week and in the Showgrouds i am sure if Sligo play to their potential there could be a few goal in them. Key is not to concede, their defence seems to be their weak point as proven by going behind to Bray and Cork.
I didn't see the game but I'm not at all surprised by the result. I think most Rovers fans had written this season off long ago. There is some merit in Kenny but he seriously needs to clean out some of the deadwood he signed in February. His rigid adherence to the 442 at the start of the season has really screwed the team up when it was obvious to everyone it would never work.
What i expected, i knew they had missed too many easy chances, especially o'donnell at the end, if even 1 of them had gone in they would be through now. A bit like sligo rovers last year in Ukraine, they could have been leading 2-0 going into the home leg, and played a completely different game.

Is it? I thought it was just us out the LoI circle who based such an emphasis on European progression for the league to have a better standing. If Rovers were heading in the direction of financial trouble like previous champions it'll be bad for the league. From what I've heard, there's been no signs of Rovers gambling that they were going to get through last night. I'm sure ye will bounce back. Belgrade suffered a set-back when ye knocked them out last year. Now ye've a set-back that ye'll have to come back from. I agree with Kenny that ye have to rescue the season and I think ye will.
On tonight's action. Sligo have to win tonight. They are currently top of our league and should be capable of over-turning the 2 goal deficit. If they keep their opponents scoreless and score themselves in the first hour, I'll be confident they'll get the second goal required to get through. Good luck to Pat's as well!

Charlie whats the mood like on your own MB? everyone calling for Kennys head or do some still have faith in him? many likely to make the trip up here?
For once maybe someone will call me "sir" without adding "you're making a scene."
No idea, I don't read that thing.
or it could be sorted slowly. 2 and a half years-ish maybe?

Fine. Bohs won a total of 2 ties in the period before 2001. In absolutely no way could Bohs be creditted with a 'fair chunk' of Ireland's coefficient. Or anything resembling it.
Not a single Irish side was ever seeded on the basis of Bohs results. Your fine results against Aberdeen, kaiserlautern and Bate were off the books by the time an irish side was seeded. Still want to continue this?

Groundwork could constitute a belief and confidence in other LOI teams, that they were capable of getting good results in Europe.
I'm not suggesting thats what he was saying, but certainly others would have taken notice of the results of Bohs, both inside or outside the league.

just to be clear, im not talking about Ireland's current coefficient. I also think you are having a lot of trouble with the concept of groundwork. Did we or did we not contribute significant points towards the coefficient between 2001 and 2006 and at least equal to that contributed by most Irish teams within that period?
Just because results are "off the books", it doesnt mean that Irish teams didnt gain from them. What about when Pats fine results and performances go "off the books" - do we just consign them as irrelevant because no one is now currently benefitting from them in terms of coefficient? I dont think we should. All results that contribute to a gain in our coefficient should be respected and recognised for what they contributed irregardless of when they occurred or whether or not they have current relevance. Youre just being unneccessarily contrary, as usual.
Pauls post has a lot of validity but its not really what i was saying.
Good call.

my original post
from wikipediawe did do a fair chunk of the groundwork in getting the Leagues coefficient raised in the first place which subsequently made things a tad easier for our compatriots.
to suggest that Bohs results early in that period didnt start or continue the ball rolling (to an extent) or didnt constitute a decent portion of groundwork in the progress of the League is ridiculous.Between 1998 and 2010, the league's place on the coefficent table rose 15 places, the biggest climb of any league in Europe. Its position of 29th in 2010 was also its highest since 1986.In 1985 its highest position in history was 24th.
