Wow. So 22 wins in 48 years (?) followed by 28 wins in 9 seasons. I know it's largely because of meeting weaker teams in qualifying rounds nowadays, but it's still a credit to the switch to summer football.

Have to be careful with that figure obviously - the change to summer football was also about the same time as the change to full-time pro and to more qualifying rounds meaning it'd be easier for clubs to get past rounds. In '99, we were drawn against teams from Sweden, Switzerland and Moldova, which would be a horrendous first-round draw these days.

Intertoto also went to home & away games in 98 and that gave us more opportunities. Between 2002 and 2008 (when it finished), of the 21 wins were in the Intertoto
2006 was the only year when all 4 teams won a tie

I'll throw in a few easy but interesting questions here....
Which 2 League of Ireland clubs (who have qualified for Europe) are unbeaten at home in Europe?
Which LoI club holds the record for the heaviest defeat in a single leg?
Which LoI club holds the record for the biggest away win in Europe by any club in that country? (i.e. one of our clubs holds the record for the biggest away win by any club in Poland or Iceland or ... )
Which LoI club recorded the longest unbeaten run at home in Europe?
And one I'm not sure of, off the top of my head... how many Republic of Ireland internationals have scored against League of Ireland clubs in Europe? I can think of two, there must be more.
First one is UCD and Home Farm anyway.
Heaviest defeat is probably Harps' 12-0 against Derby.
Longest unbeaten home run is possibly Pat's - (going back to 99, as Dodge posted recently. Bit mad as they were about the worst Irish club in Europe up until that point)
No ideas on the third one though. Would imagine it's a new relatively new country (as I'd be fairly sure there's been heavier Icelandic defeats than anything we've inflicted cos of the way the draws were done back in the day)
I'd guess the biggest away win was Derry away to Gretna
Pats and Dundalk bought had 8 game unbeaten streaks in Europe. Our last loss in Richmond was Zimbru so we’re 9 unbeaten there (lost to Steaua in the RDS) (and for the record we weren't the worst Irish team in Europe until then...)
Great question on the Irish internationals. Can only think of one off hand

Good call on Gretna actually.
Irish internationals is a good question. I suppose rather than say "I know" but not tell, we may as well start the bidding with Liam Whelan's brace against Rovers in 58.
The only Irish international I knew about was Ronnie Whelan against Dundalk in early 80s

I think Frank Stapleton scored against Dundalk, playing for Ajax?
Im sure Ronnie Whelan scored also v Dundalk in 1982.
Another Question........First irish team to win an away game in Europe, year and team ?
#DundalkFC - First Irish club to win an away game in Europe (1963), only Irish club to win a game / points in Europa League Group Stage (2016).
Ronnie Whelan scored in both legs against Dundalk in 82/83 and I think Tony Galvin scored against Drogheda in Spurs 14-0 aggregate win the following year.
Has a LOI club ever come back from losing 2-0 in the first leg to go through? Please say yes!!
We nearly did it against Gent, losing 2-0 away then winning them home leg 3-1
Here on a technicality.
Here is a couple of quizzes for the nerds

http://www.sporcle.com/games/Thats_a...d-in-europe-ii
That first one is basically "Name all the countries in Europe"
Edit - 109 on the second quiz. Toughy.

Sorry I forgot about this, but we more or less got there.
UCD and Home Farm
Derby 12-0 Harps
Dundalk and Pats 8 each
Gretna 1-5 Derry... Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter, etc etc have never won by more in Scotland
The 2 I was thinking of were Whelan and Stapleton against Dundalk... Liam Whelan is right, and Tony Galvin and Chris Hughton contributed to the 14 Spurs put past Drogs. Any advance on 5?
First away winners were Dundalk, beating Zurich in the 63-4 European Cup, it was a first win in the competition for an Irish side. We lost 3-0 at home, went 2-0 up away and hit the bar! Won 2-1.
