Well if they were I would hope an institution such as Oxford would at least get the structure, semantics and syntax right if they were looking at me....

I still stick by what I said, you started off with Villa looking for an athletic player, finished with thats why you can see they are looking at Darron. You're almost as bad as geysir trying to refute it.

Astonishing. Anyway no wonder you're sticking with your view, you totally ignored my explanation. As my previous post step-by-stepped, that is not simply what I said but, hey, I had a go at spelling it out. Ultimately I'm glad you ignored the explanation as it might result in you altering your, eh, inimitable writing style. And this place gets too boring for that.

And I don't know what step-by-stepped(in the usage above) means either.

Anyway as you say lets not take over this thread about whether or not you think Gibson is an Athletic footballer or not, or whether villa are potentially buying him as an Athletic footballer or not, whether or not he (ever/never) appears to be this type of player and just focus as you rightly say on actual transfer rumours.

Has anything come of the Doyle one, the fact that McCarthy came out the exact same day as this broke suggests there was some truth in it or someone was potentially interested and the papers got it wrong. By all accounts though Mccarthy isn't going to sell. Which leads me to the next point I've been dwelling about, a lot of people seem to have this c2 year window where a footballer is at their peak and thats it, then after that they are over the hill almost, doyle is now 27, to me to fit in with this belief he would be reaching his peak and has only a couple/possibly 3 years at the top, and therefore if he is ever to make it(not exactly sure how we define this) he needs to move now.

Doyle would have to push for the move and, problem is, he still wouldn't command a regular first-team place in a big club (top four) right now. A stellar season at Wolves could change that.

Doyler could be helped by the fact that he hasn't been worn down by the daily grind in Italy since he was 15/16. Plus he's another one of our gems who isn't lightning fast, which will help stave off obvious decline that bit more.

He wouldn't get a look in at United, City, Chelsea, but outside of that there isn't a whole lot of difference, Arsenal perhaps he could struggle at, but he would be capable at any of the others, and numerous European clubs if he so wished.

As mentioned in other threads, Gibson has picked up an injury and this may scupper any hope of a transfer in this window.

Hearing today Bellamy could be heading back to Liverpool on a free. Would surely exclude any move for Doyle.

We should start some sort of rumour for deadline day, see if the English papers pick up on it. Involving an Italian club is always a clever one with the Trap connection. Gibson to Fiorentina maybe?

The BBC seem to be reporting anything and everything anyone tweets or texts to them. But yeah, my mate's waiting in departures in Florence airport at the minute to come back from his holidays and just saw Gibson arrive on and step off the plane he's about to board... This one has wings.

Ghostie (via e-mail): "He has it on very good authority that a deal is about to be struck for none other than Manchester United's Darren Gibson. A move, ironically suggested by a Mr. Trapattoni several seasons ago!"
