Maybe it's a bit greedy after recent years but I'd have thought that to be a poor result for Pats - is that unfair?

No - very poor result. Possibly unlucky though.

Poor result, but results like that can happen. Should overturn it next week though - in which case it doesn't matter.

They had 13 corners according to Bet365, so they were obviously pushing hard.

I'd expect them to at least bring it to extra time in Richmond though. Early goal and Pats should go through.

Didn't deserve to lose. Created a fair few chances, and will create a lot more in Inchicore. Still expect to go through

Disappointing result, that. I'd be hopeful they can overturn it at home. Am I correct in thinking that the loss won't negatively affect any co-efficient so long as Pats go through?

No, the national co-efficient is based on results in individual games. It's the club co-efficient which is based on progression through rounds.

One country in Europe behind us in summer, amazing the amount of people who don't know what it is.

It's not just 6 games, it's the 3-4 hour long coverage on Sky for CL teams every gamenight. It's the multiple highlights shows, the weekly magazine shows on Irish and British tv, the red buttons, RTE forced to cover Irish teams live in Europe with the panel, instead of Chelsea's 3rd game in the group phase against CSKA Sofia, that kind of thing. The worldwide exposure you also get is massive, as every country wants to broadcast the CL. People whether they want to or not, will notice. Shels didn't get that far, and while it's unlikely we will also, at least the possibility is there.

The UEFA Cup doesn't have the same glamour, but if we got to the group phase, it will be further than any LOI side has ever reached before. Instead of RTE covering the games, TV3 would have to find a slot for us, instead of Stoke v Chisinau in November instead.

    Pats - unlucky me hole.
They only started to play with a bit more purpose in the last quarter, departing from type, they kept the ball mostly on the ground and were more effective by a factor of 10. In that time they had 2 great chances, Kavanagh (I think) header off the bar and in the dying minutes, Murphy (I also think) header beat the goalie but easily cleared off the line. Apart from that, Pats were powder puff and IBV cruised the 1 nil win. Pats tactics in the first half brought new meaning to the term - the ball coming down with ice.
It was a stonewall penalty and not a murmur from the Pats player, Rogers had a brain fart and took down the IBV striker with his arse flying into him.
But Rogers made 2 excellent save in a row, almost immediately afterwards, so some redemption.
Not scoring an away goal is a blow for Pats and IBV will have their main midfielder back for the 2nd leg. I think Pats would be slight favourites as surely they can't play this poorly at Inchicore.
It was boiling hot in the stand, I'm burnt to a crisp.

it sounded like a limp performance, they required some magic blue seats to up the tempo so to speak by the sounds of the commentators.

Disappointed we didn't get and away goal, Still think we should beat them in Inchicore next week but a goal for them will make it very difficult to go through, The team from Kazakhstan drew 1-1 in Slovenia tonight so maybe going out wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, Bigger game on Sunday a win there and its a great week
    Here on a technicality.

Disappointing that Pats didn't get an away goal but IBV are probably more disappointed they don't have a bigger lead to take into the away leg. The onus is now on Pats to approach the home leg in a more constructive and positive manner, ie start McFaul instead of Crowley.

Neither of them will start. Mulcahy and Bradley in the centre if everyone is fit. Kavanagh back up front

Lets say that Pats' last quarter was a departure from the type they showed in the first 3/4.

IBV captain said they got sucked into the kick and run game and couldn't really get going, by their standards they were poor.

IBV are really poor in fairness. Needed a penalty to win, Rogers made one great save, then a couple of standard stops from shots hit from distance. St Pats had a few chances too, hitting post, clearance off line, and a few standard saves from their 'keeper. No doubt IBV will just park the bus in front of goal next week, but St Pats are clearly a better team and should progress
