I'll try to get a video of the goal in the next couple of days - I know I have it on DVD somewhere. In the meantime this will have to keep you going (courtesy of www.inpho.ie)

Interesting Mickey Walsh-Trapattoni connection. Mickey came on as sub for Porto in the 1984 European Cup Winners' Cup Final against Trap's Juventus team. Juve won 2-1.

When "approaching" Martin O'Neill to replace Stan, didn't the FAI go through Mickey Walsh?

Mickey is a football agent and O'Neills' friend, so that's quite possible.

Mickey played in that infamous game against Belgium 1981. On his return to Portugal, he went on non stop about the cheating referee Nazare, the Porto players had to tell him to calm down in case Nazare ended up refereeing a Porto game.

I think it was a couple of years earlier when they were looking for Kerr's replacement and MoN was between jobs taking care of his wife during her illness. Mickey is good friends with Martin and did some scouting for Celtic during their run to Seville in 2003.

sounds sore... he wouldnt get out of the way or what?
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

Sad to say, he looked warily at me for a few seconds, looked at his friend, and they both turned and walked away.
Maybe it was an anti-Limerick thing??

The most inappropriate spot I ever saw a GAA/Ireland top was a M*ath one at the NZ beauty spot of Milford Sound, the one minor blight on an otherwise flawless day!

The most surreal ever was turning round in Seoul and seeing three Japanese girls in-a-row wearing identical Galway tops which was just a little surprising.....

Talking about surreal, i was sitting beside that japenese Lady that people mentioned on here before at the France away game. She was in the Galway jersey that people mentioned too(although im pretty sure it wasn't tommy varden or the supermacs one but the more recent aer arann one!!), with her husband and child, and the kid decked out, real cute kid too. Anyway they had only come over for the game. I couldn't believe it. At the end I stayed in the stadium for near half an hour without being able to say anything, but she was just completely inconsolable. A very very strange experience*, but at the time I probably didn't think about it as much.

*I mean ive had some strange effects on women in the past but never this bad joking.

As requested by Stutts, Mickey Walsh's goal against the Russians in 1984. A great run and cross by Michael Robinson to set it up. Mickey's celebration was not quite as dramatic a knee-slide as I had remembered - when I described it yesterday it was like a 10 yard slide but here it looks like he just fell on his knees.

Sorry for the syncing issues - need to work on my skills there.

It's from RTE's preview of Euro88. I think it was shown a couple of days before the England game and I still have it on video. I have the goals from the Icelandic tournament in 1986 as well which I'll try to get up tomorrow.

I can confirm I just saw those 2 eastern europeans going in with the bozzas and the albos to Waxy Oconnors with their green guiness hats, taking over or day and making me having to queue for a pint.

Not so strange at all, we are a great nation after all. Be more proud stutts.

I'll see what I can do. I have transferred some old tapes onto DVD but, in order to maintain the quality, some of the file sizes are very large.

If you would be up to sending me your VHSes I'd happily rip them all. I'll even pay shipping then send them back when I'm done. I can also help you with video encoding to get file sizes down if you'd like.
