Thats a very nice gesture worm, but something tells me these are prized possesion and he will not want to part with them.

Perhaps you could explain making copies of the videos and then he could send those?

I think you would then find many people would be willing to pay you for your time to make copies for them(a certain amount) as well.

i realise this has nothing to do with me, but i like to facilitate.

You're right there Paul - 25 year old tapes are of great sentimental value. The original tapes are in a climate-controlled chamber in Dublin (my parents' attic) but I have already converted a couple of things to DVD and I should be able to get them in MP4 format over the weekend. I'll PM you worm and share the files and then maybe you could find somewhere to host them.

Wow, an attic full of 25 years of Irish footy on tape...sounds like my wet dream Seriously though, I do understand not wanting to risk anything with them. Just let me know what I can do in terms of the video. I'm not great with converting DVDs (specifically if they are in .VOB format) but I know its tough to keep the audio in sync. And thanks for sharing as well.

Host them on megavideo/megaupload maybe? Then everyone here could download them or stream them online.

Yep, that would be the plan from my point of view. MU is the best in my opinion because they allow large files and also they very rarely delete files so they can be there for years. I used MediaFire with the ones in the thread in my signature because MU was acting up when I was doing those, but it should be fine now.

As promised (and to mark my 700th post). The goals from Ireland v Iceland in 1986 en route to our only title so far.... this was Paul McGrath's first goal for us as well.

Still working on the longer video conversions.

As promised (and thanks to theworm2345) the RTE Preview of Euro 88 can now be downloaded at this link http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZMROXS33

This is the video I lifted the Mickey Walsh goal from. The preview is about 45 minutes long and includes interviews with a number of familiar faces from that era. It also includes the Don Givens hat-trick against Russia, the 1965 playoff game against Spain and lots of George Hamilton.

    Thanks worm

Almost correct. Definetely the worst performance from an Irish player I have ever seen. He kicked an Icelandic player in the town halls. Somehow only got booked and the then Icelandic manger said it was the worst tackle he had ever seen. I can also remember Walsh
taking not one but two shots that went out for throw ins. Never seen again in an Ireland shirt. I met the other Mickey Walsh when he was playing non league for Chorley. My uncle had a pub in Chorley and Mickey Walsh used to drink in it. Great head and 100% Irish. For some reason Giles rarely started him in games.

I don't remember Mikey Walsh at all then. Ireland kicked anything that moved in that game, Grealish reveled like a pig in shíte.
The Icelanders still talk about it.

I have boxes full of Betamax tapes in the attic of Irish games going back many years. I suspect the quality is pretty poor by now.

My main memory of Michael Walsh is him coming on and the caption on the tv reading "Mice Walsh".
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

I had a few boxes of games recorded on VHS tapes but they lost out in a battle against clutter, clutter still winning the war though.
The only one I kept was the 1-1 game in Portugal, recorded from Portugal tv on satellite. I always had a soft spot for that game and it sounded great in Portuguese.

I thought they'd be talking about the banks or something at this stage.

There is only one 1-1 game that was played in Portugal and yes Matt Holland scored the equaliser.

And like most other places, economy goes up and down, governments come and go but sports are always with us.

Ya i was trying to remember about the charlton 3-0 game for some reason I had it in my head that we lost 3-0 at home and drew 1-1 away.

No not me geysir, sorry I was just paraphrasing the headline of a well known article written by a female journalist in the Chicago Tribue some time ago.
