With Wigan looking more and more likely to be relegated, I can't help but feel that this would be good for Sammon. A big club like Wigan would be sure to return to the Premiership while at the same time, gives Sammon a great chance of starting regularly and McCarthy would be snapped up by top Premier League club!

I don't agree about Wigan being a big club. They're the smallest side in the Premier League next to Blackpool and seem to go into every season (barring Bruce's last season) with a "relegate me" sign on their chests. Like Reading and Watford, they've been punching above their weight for a long time and I think relegation would more or less do for them. They have a lot of ambitious young players who won't want to play in the Championship, and I believe a large number of first-team players are out of contract this year.

The one thing they do have is (despite his meddling in McCarthy's international career) is arguably the best young manager in the league who hasn't really got the credit for what he's done. I think Ollie is a shoe-in for manager of the year if Blackpool survive but Martinez's achievement has to be up there. Inherited a squad that was struggling and had to immediately offload the higher earners/biggest players. He's made some amazing signings for practically no money and hasn't complained about it once. I think the league would be worse off without them.

I think the ideal scenario for Sammon is that Wigan stay up and are forced to sell Rodallega. That'd leave him, Moses and Di Santo scrapping it out for two places and I'd fancy him to ease out Di Santo easily.

I think "squandered" is a bit harsh. If you want to see squandering, watch Nicklas Bendtner.

Sammon on at half time for Wigan, great chance to get his first PL goal or even make himself a Wigan hero.

Scores, great touch and a wonderful finish. Couldn't quite tell but it looked like he made a clover with his hands during his celebration.

He mIght never score a more valuable goal if Wigan can pull off a miracle from here. Good right-footed finish under Green from about 12 yards out.

Good man Conor. Great touch and finish. More evidence the League of Ireland can produce players for the top level.

Should be an incredible last 10 minutes, Sammon just set up Moses who nearly scored.

How and why would you go about making a clover with your hands?

He has a standard celebration - more of a heart than a clover. Thumbs together and forefingers together -

What a finish to the match, unfortunately West Ham are down and this drags Wolves back in to it.

How? If you make your fingers like this, but keep the tips of your middle fingers together and stretched out while curling your index fingers in a bit you get a clover.

Why? I don't know, as Stu pointed out maybe it wasn't a clover.

I really doubt it was a clover. Has definitely secured his position for Stoke next week. Had a shaky first few but really threw himself round, and Wigan will need his physicality as much as anything next week. It's still going to be a huge ask - they're probably going to need 3 points which not many teams can claim to have won at the Britannia.

What an incredible game of football though. One of the best I've seen in a long, long time.

That's not a clover, it's supposed to be a heart.
