    Billy Mehmet

Could not find a thread on this guy, but if there is apologies.

Anyway, Billy Mehmet has just signed for Turkish league side Genclerbirligi. He's 26, and has signed a 3 year deal after leaving St. Mirren. Reports in one tabloid say he was offered €10,000 a week so he's obviously got something going for him.

One to keep an eye out for. It's encouraging to see Irish lads willing to break the mould and give non-UK leagues a shot too.

    I agree.
Best of luck to him in Turkey. It will be a very different experience to Scotland and hopefully he'll end up a better player for it.

Based on his name, he's probably got some Turkish parents/grandparents, so it could be similar to how Colin Kazim-Richards went to Fenerbahce without a word of Turkish. Could be interesting their national team before ours.

Call him up immediatelty I say. We don't want top quality players at top quality clubs like this slipping through the net. He could be the next Caleb Folan.

good luck to him,, in fairness. I wouldnt deny a 26 year old with no senior caps a chance to aim for another national team.
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

Don't you have to be quite good to get in the Turkish national team though? At least as good as Caleb Folan anyway.
Maybe he's got some Andorran in him as well as the English/Irish/Turkish DNA as this would perhaps be more his level I'd think. I expect he'll be back to Britain within a year still not having managed how to pronounce Genclerbirligi [SIZE=2]

Footballers are really delusional sometimes. He really thinks he has a chance to get into the Turkey squad?

Yes they are FIFA ranked 29 we are 41 so picking Turkey is not an easy option for him.
Over a long period of time Ireland and Turkey are fairly evenly matched, but recently Turkey have been the stronger side.
They have been 10-20 points better recently. We were better 1990-1995.

Lol it does not work, but you can stick the teams in yourself

    This might show it.

The Turkish like to draw their players from the national league, so if he does well there anything is possible. His timing is probably a little bit off, as quite a few of the older players have recently retired or been dropped from the national team and have been replaced with players around his age.
