lads have we forgotten wes houlihan, deserves to be in there.
Hoolahan has never played against anything close to the standard of player he'll face at international level. Granted, neither had St. Ledger when he was called in, but he was certainly playing at a higher level than Hoolahan.
You could make the arguement for Houlihan to be included in the training squad but it will be very hard for him to become a regular squad member ahead of Duff, McGeady, Lawrence, Hunt until he starts to perform well at minimum Championship level. So maybe this time next year if he has played as well as this season the calls for him to be included would be more justified
Its really not that complicated!!!

How many have stuck around for more than a game? We have loads of quality wide players, all of whom are playing at a far higher level than Hoolahan. He hasn't done anything to warrant being picked ahead of any of those players.
I never said that. Loads of the current squad were picked when all they had was that level of experience; Doyle being the best example
He's gone on to better things, and so will other players. Maybe not Hoolahan, but thats not the point

In terms of youth, it looks to me a lot like the squad Stan brought over here a few years ago...minus Joe Lapira that is. I'd have had Kilbane in there just to show the young players what dedication is. I also wouldn't expect too many goals out of this bunch.
EDIT: Oops, just realized this was not the final squad for the friendlies, just a provisional training camp. In that case this is what Trap should have done, at least in my opinion.

Am looking for old Irish matches on VHS, PM me if you have some and I'll upload them here
Will there be a couple of friendlies set up on this training camp against some local teams? Also, does anybody know if the 2 RDS games will be shown on Sky Sports? Going to be out of the country!!
Just noticed there are 5 former Airtricity League players in the training squad![]()
Wait, so is Ward out of this as well?
http://www.irishtimes.com/sports/soc...269935037.htmlLeft-back Stephen Ward is recovering from knee surgery but should be fit for the start of pre-season training this summer.
I read in the Star today that Cunningham has been called up to replace Ward
Its really not that complicated!!!
Cunningham won the Manchester Senior Cup with City on Thursday night. U19 midfielder Sam Sheridan was in the Bolton side

Cillian Sheridan called into the training squad: http://www.fai.ie/index.php?option=c...r-men&Itemid=8
in injury news:
In squad news, David Meyler (Sunderland), Darron Gibson (Manchester United), Stephen Ward (Wolves) and Caleb Folan (Hull City) are ruled out while Keith Treacy of Preston North End returned to his club on Sunday for treatment after having his hernia injury assessed.
Marc Wilson (Portsmouth) and James McCarthy (Wigan Athletic) are carrying knocks too and, having not assembled with the squad as yet, a decision on their availability will be made in due course. Uncapped Manchester City full-back Greg Cunningham has been added to the squad and trained on Sunday.
The match against the U23 team on Tuesday will be a real test for what's left of that training squad.
