    "..after making a quicker-than-expected recovery from a serious knee injury."
    Got the 'uh-oh' flavor of déjà vu reading that bit.

    Very positive news though.

    Still no sign of him making a return. A bit worrying considering he claimed 3 weeks before the start of the season that he would be fit for the first league game. Today is Sunderland's 5th game and still no sign. Anyone have the latest? Perhaps Tets can tweet him to get the info??

    Better not to rush him back after the last setback.

    Agreed. Although I've been keeping an eye on their bench lineup lately expecting him to be there.

    Next time he has a Q&A I'll ask him

    <EDIT>

    According to this - http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/spo...urn_to_action/ - he could appear for Sunderland's reserves this week.
    All goals, yellow and red cards tweeted in real time on mastodon, BlueSky and facebook

    So basically, the only break David caught that day was the fact his leg didn't completely pop off at the knee.

    Meyler's come on in injury time for Gardner with Sunderland pressing for a winner. Great to see him back but hardly the most attacking move Bruce could have made. McClean is still on the bench.

    Hopefully he will be eased back in by Bruce and not pick up a quick injury.

    Played his first 90 minutes since his last injury today in Sunderland's Reserve Team defeat to Everton:

    http://www.safc.com/news/20111018/everton-res-2-sunderland-res-0_2256213_2486299

    If my memory serves me correctly Glenn Whelan is on a yellow, so will miss the return match if he picks up a yellow in Talinn. Options to replace him include Keith Fahey, James McCarthy and Marc Wilson. Both Fahey and McCarthy are not the gritty defensive type midfielder Whelan is so I don't think Trap sees them as direct replacement, even though he would probably go for a Fahey/Andrews combo if this situation arises. He hasn't "forgiven" Wilson yet who would be my choice even though he is playing LB with Stoke. Gibson is in no man's land and Green has disappeared as fast as he emerged. Would he be tempted to go for Hunt midfield?

    Here's an argument for Meyler. Yes he has had 2 horrific knee injuries and should be handled with the utmost of care at this tender stage of his career. However, he has had taken his time this time and the medics have taken all the precautions to ensure that he is 100% before him returning. He has been in full training for over 2 months now and has played 150 minutes of football with the Reserves and has made a token return appearance with the Senior side. It is now exactly 4 weeks to the return leg in Dublin. There are 3 Sunderland Premiership games between now and then. If David plays some part in all of those games, I would have no qualms with him being called up. He is fully fit, all he is lacking is match sharpness which should come in the next few weeks. Obviously, he will still lack match sharpness by the time the 15th Nov comes, but he is still easily our best option for the "combative" role in midfield.

    It is worth the thought anyways given our dire deficiency in midfield and Whelan's yellow
