There is another way to get Nolan in to a green jersey...someone with get their sister to marry him then he can get a passport.

EDIT: Oops, looked on Wiki and he's already married.

surely if his grandfathers father was irish, he had an irish passport, therefore his son(nolans grandfather is irish), is nolans grandfather dead then? If not surely they could just progress it through the generations?

Most footballers don't care enough abouttheir ancestary to check. Nolan could be just plucking fractions out of the ear

Yep, I'd say Nolan or the journalist, got their fractions mixed up.

I'm Ardrock and i approve this post.
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

Yes that would be heaven. Imagine all the flaps moistening on this forum at the juicy prospect of all the 4th generational oirish to the core talents out there waiting to be discovered. Do birth certificates go that far back though? The FAI could set up a new graveraiding unit digging up stiffs of ancestors of English pro footballers and taking DNA samples to see if they could trace them back to the Emerald Isle. Bless the diaspora!

Wasn't Noble and not O'Hara looking for the gametime guarantees according to someone on ybig:
    http://ybig.ie/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=24506&PN=10

    "
Definitely absent are some of the more prominent former England under-21 internationals who have been linked with a switch of allegiance. Mark Noble, Trapattoni confirmed, has not been approached, while the agents of unnamed others, the Italian suggested, had prevaricated when contacted, apparently seeking assurances their clients would play regularly for Ireland if they made themselves available.
“We asked the question (if the players wanted to play for Ireland) and it wasn’t like with Shane Duffy (the Derry-born Everton defender who was seriously injured in a training game at Malahide this summer) who immediately said: “Yes”. I cannot tell the others what the situation will be. I can only say: ‘Come!’ and then put what I think is the best team out on the pitch.”"

Was just browsing through Everton's youth team and there are quite a few Irish names in there, although not all of them indicate that they are eligible.
Ben Heneghan is one that does, though I have not heard of him. If he does turn out to have promise, then Duffy and Coleman are well placed to have a word...

Actually, Connor Roberts states that he is eligible for NI. Wouldn't he also be eligible for Ireland?

Cool, although it also mentions that Gerard Kinsella is eligible and I'm not sure if he is.

Strange how players can play for us at underage level and not be eligible:

    Martin Kelly
'Hugely impressive display by the Irishman'

It just goes to show that with a name like Kelly, it would be assumed by one and all that he is Irish, the actual strength of the connecting thread would be of minor significance.
