How about Matt Derbyshire of Olympiakos? He's married to an Irish girl and even has a kid with an Irish name (fada & all) and hasn't a bad goalscoring record and is still young. Roy Wegerle despite being South African used the marriage ruling to play for the USA.

[QUOTE=livehead1;1291463]Sorry, I meant to say he wasn't offered a full international cap. I mean even if you look at it logically, we've had McCarthy who was pulling up trees at Hamilton and linked with big clubs all the time and the temptation was resisted to give him a full cap!

Why has Brady not denied this, then?

Surely, it sends out a bad signal to players working their way up through the international underage system if an England U16 player can make such a significant claim without it being challenged.

The balance to that was Aldo, Andy Townsend and the like probably weren't hanging on for full English honours.
People know that I appreciate the uniqueness of the Irish diaspora, and fully appreciate the contribution of 2g's and 3g's both on the terrace and on the pitch, but to be chasing Nolan, who's pretty much given us the two fingers over the past how many years doesn't sit well with me.
I kinda know how you feel... I never resented Morrison for sitting on the fence the way he did. I thought he was quite entitled to do it for the period that he did it for given his age. I'd put someone like Naughton in that bracket now (If there's any truth behind the approach)... But Nolan has made his feelings clear for long enough to warrant any credit for a U turn.

    Nolan does not qualify.
He can't do a u turn even if had been granted 3 wishes from King Brian himself.

I don't believe 2g, 3g or the "Oirish" sitting in their living room in New York / London waving the tricolor and drinking guinness have any relevance to this country or should be representing us, they can all take a hike as far as I'm concerned, they're an embarrassment.

That's my view on the matter.

I think he's injured at the moment. He got two goals in the Greek cup final last year against AEK Athens and was given Man-of-the-match. He wouldn't be a bad option.

He's the captain of the England u-21 team, at least he was last year. I can't see him turning out for us.

Are you sure you're not thinking of Mark Noble?

Did a bit of research and I don't think Matt Derbyshire can play for us unless he was living here for 5 years. Oh well.

No, I'm sure it was Matt Derbyshire. He was the captain of the England u-21 team a couple of years ago, I think it was summer 2008. I remember there was a big brawl between the England and I believe the Dutch team.

    From wikipedia:

On 1 February 2007, Derbyshire was called up to the England Under-21 squad by new manager Stuart Pearce, for the match against Spain on 6 February. He was subsequently injured playing for Blackburn against Sheffield United on 3 February, and therefore missed joining up with the squad.

However, Derbyshire was fit enough to be included in England's Under-21 match against Italy at the new Wembley Stadium on 24 March. He scored England's third goal in a thrilling 3–3 draw. During the group stage of the 2007 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship, he was the scorer of a controversial goal against the Serbian under-21 team. He did not kick the ball out when Serbian defender Slobodan Rajković was down injured and went on to score England's second goal of the game, proceeding to celebrate in taunting fashion; in his defence, Derbyshire claimed he did not see the injured player.[6] He took part in the epic semi-final shootout against hosts Netherlands, scoring his first but having his second penalty saved as England lost 13–12. On 28 March 2009, Derbyshire played the second half for England as they beat Norway 5–0, scoring two goals.

From personal experience I know they changed the residence law so that to be eligible for a passport you had to now live in Ireland, but does this affect his eligibility with FIFA, ie does he need a passport to play?
I know Paul Butler (shudder) managed to qualify by virtue of being married to an Irish lass, but I'm pretty sure that was before the rules changed.
If he was keen and the FAI were keen I'm sure he could be fast tracked, I remember the Dutch were tring to do it for Kalou before the last world cup.

I dunno.. Was on Newstalk last week that, yes, as of now he's not qualified. But if his Ma pulls some sort of stroke with dual Nationality he will be elligable then...

Unless of course she wishes a fourth one then he's propper ****ed!!!

    But hardly a valid one.

I make the assumption that you have no relatives living abroad and that none of your extended family have ever left Ireland looking for work. I also assume that you have never been to an Ireland international, whether at home or abroad, and listened to the voices of the supporters around you. I can only imagine what some of my fellow 2G posting here would have to say to you, but I just feel sorry for you that your blinkers are clamped on quite so tightly.
