Various rumours circulating on Wolves messageboards (from relatively reliable posters) that Kevin Doyle was seen at the Wolves training ground on Friday for talks with Mick and that we have agreed to pay the £6.5 million buy out clause necessary to secure him. Seem to get things wrapped up relatively quickly these days, so wouldn't be surprised to see something happen early next week if it is going to happen.
However, have also read on a Reading board that 2 Premiership Clubs have met the price (Ourselves and Everton/Sunderland?) - although Everton have been linked with Owen in today's papers so theit attention may be shifting. Hope so, as would love to see him down the Wolves.

Things is though, Doyle has Premiership experience (and goals).

There are other strikers available though who have EPL experience (and goals) who I believe are better than Doyle. Realistically, I was hoping to get Marc Antoine-Fortune if any striker though to be honest I don't think scoring goals will be much of a problem next year, its the defense I'm worried about. Michael Owen, Lomana LuaLua, Henri Camara, or Obafemi Martins would be nice as well.

Wake up worm and smell the cornflakes - Doyle is a far better player than Iwelumo who is Championship quality at best.
As for Ebanks-Blake, untested in the Premiership and could easily find it a step too far for him next season. Doyle was a better player in the Championship if not last year then he definitely looked much better during his first year at Reading.
Anyway point is if you think Iwelumo is a better player than Doyle then I'm starting to understand why you rate David Connolly so highly.

Why don't you tell me where I said that he was a better playerHim and Ebanks-Blake do seem to have an understanding together
By the way its quite clear that the same man who apparently rates Doyle an EPL striker also rates Iwelumo and David Connolly quite highly so if you're implying my judgement is as good as his I'll take your compliment.

doyle to wolves
You really are clueless!! You state that you were looking for better options than Doyle and then right at the top of your list is Antoine-Fortune who has about 4 premierships goals and very little experience at that level. You then go on to include Owen, LuaLua who has eventually flopped at every premiership club he has been at, and Camara who couldn't get a game at Wigan.
that wolves team is way beneath Kevin doyle. doyle is actually a player with proper quality, who the hell are the other two players that worm mentioned?
have they ever actually done anything?
well, one of them did this....

OK you can all just wait and see what Doyle does this year if he goes to Wolves. Aside from when playing for Ireland, Doyle tends to only score poachers goals or headers from 4 yards out which of course are important but is not very possible when you don't have a good midfield and isn't even needed when you have Ebanks-Blake, someone who scored more than Doyle last year, some poachers, some not, to finish off these chances. Aside from Michael Kightly, I don't know if any of Wolves midfielders are EPL quality and Doyle is good in the air but then again so is Iwelumo...both of these facts most of you are all probably blissfully unaware of because the majority of you probably haven't watched a Wolves game since 03/04. Doyle also seems to go AWOL for weeks or months at a time, he even got benched as Reading were pushing for promotion this year. I have watched Fortune and LuaLua play in England and outside of England (imagine that) and they too are able to do more than score poachers goals. Theres no question about Martins or Owen and if any of you dispute that they would be better additions than Doyle it might be time for a reality check. If you were asking me to build a team from scratch I might choose Doyle over Fortune or LuaLua but not on this Wolves team.

3 goals from December on this year and 2 from December on the year before, and all were from 6 yards or less (though one was not just a freebie and actually a nice header). If he was not helping the team he should've rested till he was fit, again this is something that Wolves cannot afford if they are going to stay up. However I am doing my best to trust Mick's judgement.
Anyway I recently heard a Duff to Burnley rumor.

Worm you know little about Doyle if you think he can only score goals from 4 yards out that are handed to him on a plate. I've seen him score 25 yard screamers, bicycle kicks from the edge of the box, goals where he's run from the halfway line to beat the last defender to the ball and slot it in from 18 yards out and tons of other types of goal too numerous to recap. He also creates goals for other players, is very skillful, works very hard for the team, all qualities you brush aside without even a mention. If Doyle had played for Wolves last season and had the service that Ebanks Blake was receiving from Kightly he'd have scored far more goals imo.
Iwelumo is a very average Championship level player, LuaLua is a poor striker by any account, Fortune done little to nothing in the Premiership last season. To suggest any of these players are nearly as good as one of our most talented international players is ludicrous and shows that while indeed you might watch Wolves occasionally you certainly aren't watching much football of any other kind to enable you to make legitimate comparisons between players.
P.S. Doesn't Michael Owen only score goals from 4 yards out?
