What a strange place to end up. Club just got promoted through the play-offs last season. New investors. Smallest of the five Istanbul clubs in the Turkish Super league, have never won anything.

But, 6 games in, are second in the league, a point behind Galatasaray (according to wiki). Anyone know why the last coach was sacked?

Personally I would prefer to see him take on a more familiar club where his chances of success are greater.
I think Keane has spent too much of his career surrounding himself with familiar players and coaches, the list is endless. It's about time he took on something totally alien in an environment he has little knowledge of and maybe his management skills can be nurtured and developed better as a result.

The Istanbul-based club sacked former manager Metin Diyadin, despite him leading them to promotion from the second tier last season and to their lofty position this term.
Rather strange indeed. Maybe they felt the need for a higher profile manager, for whatever reasons.

Afaik, they have a new chairman who wants to spend money.

Roy Keane should last around a half hour so, considering his track record with facilities.

Thats if he even makes it there...as I recall his knee tends to flare up when it comes time to make a trip to the Middle East

Turkey? It will be all over for him by Christmas.
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Legendary, hothead midfieler with violent tendancies underachieves in management in England and goes to try his luck in Turkey. What could possibly go wrong???

This is a strange one. Add to the list of David O'Leary with Al Ahli, Ronnie W with Panionios, Nicossa and Limassol.

In fairness Ronnie W. down in the Hellenic world wouldn't have been such a big surprise as he'd a holiday apartment for a long time, had his business/residency there etc. For Roy, I can see him do a good job. He'll be away from the nonsense of English football, will get stuck in and grow. If he sticks it to the end of the season he'll have taken a step up in his career.

I don't know, I can see him spending the rest of his managerial career over there, maybe moving upstairs as director of football when he's an old sage. If I was in his position right now, I'd take any crumbs I could get.

He'll do well out there away from all the English Premiership players hamming it up. Once he gets a leg up and keeps a breast of things going on back home I think he'll fly it

Although with the old chestnut of his temper, I can imagine problems could sprout up, even if Keane is known for gobbling up criticism.

I think he'll slip into the job and everything will be just gravy.

Fergal: Ya, I have them here.
Manager: Ah good stuff, well give them to this man so, he forgot his!

Enough of these puns. I'm going to bow out of this thread and keep a breast of the latest developments elsewhere.

Will they be able to understand the Cork accent or will it just sound like gobbledygook to them?
