liverpool kicked lumps out of united all day. carraghers tackle on carrick would have been a free kick outside the box. bottled by the referee. owen was going through on goal and pulled down by carragher, red card! rooney skint him a few minutes before it aswell, he hacked him down and only got a warning. should have had about 3 yellows and a straight red aswell. marsherano must have made 10 fouls. lucas similar.

better team won on the day though.

Looked like the key players for Man Utd were not match fit or a bit jaded. Rooney looked to have been rushed back and it was a game too far for Giggs and Scholes. These two can only play the occasional 90 mins and he needs to use them less often. Playing Giggs and Scholes too often tires them out and means they are ineffectual.

It looks like there isnt enough depth in the attacking end of the squad. Berbatov is not really a world class player and the same could be said for Owen. They need to get more players in who have the desire and stamina. The Chelsea away match on the 8th is massive now.

Very few beach balls from the manc end afterall. Rumours they had bought them up online from the Liverpool site. The few they had certainly weren't Liverpool ones. I suppose with the KOP throwing on ones with Yanks Out totally took the sting out of their ones.

I think beach balls are the least of their worries. If I was a betting man, I would be putting a few euro on Barnsley in the Carling Cup against them.

Obertan looked useful. I've seen a couple of clips from reserve games and he has some nice tricks.

    Where was Gibson? Injured?

I think Ferguson's unwillingness to see Berbatov for what he is is costing United a bit. I would honestly prefer to see Rooney and Owen as the front two for a while. Two years ago Giggs was being used sparingly from the bench, now he's a key man. That's really not a good sign.

Big problems for Man U lads. All of the decent sides are finding them out through the midfield

They have just equalised but it masks a really dodgy midfield. I am amazed that Scholes and Giggs are still about - just not up to it at this level.

Happy to make a prediction and to look like an idiot at seasons end - if they don't buy a proper midfielder in the window they will not get to the Champs final or finish in the top 2 in the EPL

I reckon tonight was the end for Nani as a United player and will more than likely be sold in January. As Andy Gray said "Yet another disappointing performence from a player who promises so much but never seems to deliver."

I wouldn't be surprised to see United sign up the CSKA winger Krasic and the CSKA keeper Akinfeev who has amazing ability and is someone who has really impressed me in the handful of games that I have seen him in.

If United got that "penalty" for the blatant foul on Fletcher I reckon tonights game would have ended 5-3 to United.

I think Ferguson is banking on Hargreaves to be that midfielder... its a big gamble

Interesting game tonight, CSKA's new coach seems to have them gunning on all barrells, it will be too late for them to make the CL next season via the league (that will be Rubin and Spartak, but Zenit have a slim chance of grabbing second) but at least he is playing players like Dzagoev in the right position unlike Zico and Ramos.

I was impressed by Man Utd's comeback given they went 2 goals behind early in the second half. I though Van Der Saar was pretty weak for the first and last CSKA goals, he was beaten at very slim angles and I just wonder if his judgement is maybe not what it was.

You need to be careful about Akinfeev, he plays one great game then one shocker. Russia are really lacking in top class keepers, Malafeev (Zenit keeper) is pretty shocking too and he seems to be the number two for the national team. Gabulov, the Ossetian at Dynamo Moscow, is probably the best Russian keeper at the moment.

Wouldn't read anything into last nights match. Shades of the Aalborg fixture last season. I don't think United will struggle in those types of fixtures (when it matters) but I do think they'll come up short against the top sides. Hargreaves could make a big difference but he could also break down straight away. With Nani's poor showings I'm not sure why Tosic isn't getting more game time, even Obertan seems to have jumped above him in the pecking order. I really like the look of Macheda though, direct, great touch and huge confidence. Big match at the Bridge Sunday, if I'm honest I'd be happy out with a draw.

Am I correct in thinking that a January signing is ineligible for the Chamops League ?

Man U season ticket holders tell me that Anderson was supposed to be the man, post Roy - but probably taking some time

    It ain't right

Dunno for sure what the story is with January signings.

AFAIK, it depends on whether they have been registered by another club for the CL. If so, they can't play. If they haven't, then they can. I'm even less informed on the circumstances if the players was registered for the Europa League.
